Its really not a hard concept to grasp.

So what you are saying is 1 in 45 people (7 million out of 330 million or so) may see their tax decrease offset by increased Obamacare premiums. I can live with that. Of course not everyone will get a tax decrease, but it is a heck of a lot more people than will be negatively affected by loss of the mandate. And, those others who won't be buying insurance they don't want will be saving money. You are fine with them buying that insurance they don't want/won't use so that their premiums can subsidize the 7 million you reference above? So if you don't get the tax credits, I think Fo is in this group, your immediate tax savings will to some degree be offset this other provision of the law. It is just an observation. There has been a great deal of discussion about the high cost of health care for those high income individual plan folks. The 1 in 45 as you note. They have understandably been very frustrated. They have also opposed the individual mandate and supported the new tax law. It is a bit of a catch 22. But the elimination of the mandate will however cause premium increases for all of us. When so many young healthy people decide to go without coverage the pool shrinks and costs go up. So we will all eventually feel the affects, just not as drastically as those on the individual market. One has to wonder if those increases will also offset our tax savings. So you are in favor of having US corporations competing in the world market at a disadvantage due to having higher corporate tax rates than the rest of the world. You do realize that it's not corporations that pay that higher tax but rather the consumers of their goods or services. So you don't think if corporations are better able to compete and do better in the world market it won't result in more jobs? Wages are more reliant on supply and demand. If you have a skill that it is high demand you will command higher wages that someone that lacks those skills. That should work well for them int he mid-terms. The Dems have 26 Senate seats to defend next election while the Rep have just 8. Ten of those Dem seats are in states Trump won. This tax vote is going to bite them in the azz is my guess. The 7 million I was referring to are high income, mostly older buyers on the individual market. They don't get any tax credits (subsides) to offset their costs. They are paying all of it themselves. The people that buy individual market plans with incomes up to 400 % of the poverty level get graduated immediate tax credits to help them pay their premiums. They don't see much if any increase in cost as a result.(12-20-2017 10:37 AM)dawgitall Wrote: And with the repeal of the individual mandate 7 million people with individual market plans will see their premiums go up significantly. What will happen is that without the mandate the pool will shrink and everyone will see premiums go up, even those of us that don't buy on the individual market. Also bear in mind that everyone wants / needs health insurance. Many just don't want it until something happens. Come home from the doctor's office with a cancer diagnosis, get hit by a semi truck on the interstate or get a shooting pain in your chest and you want / need health insurance.
