Florida pre-game thread
North Florida scored 69 points against Florida and lost by 8. Wisconsin scored 59 points against them and won by 6.

Hard to know about the Gators because of all their no-shows. However, so far they have started 6-9, 6-8, 6-6 across the front line. They are not a particularly good shooting team (42.6%), and downright awful from the arc (29.2%). Furthermore, their opponents have shot a brisk 40.9% against them from the arc, so it would appear they are vulnerable there on both sides of the ball. They have been out-rebounded by 3.5 per game. They shoot FTs well as a team at 75.5%.

Prather averages 20.0 ppg and Frazier 19.5 ppg. After that it drops off to 9.5.

The have "men" under the basket. It will likely get ugly, unless we get hot from behind the arc.

They're shooting 29.5% from the three point line, but they run the break off rebounds and pull up and take shots. They can afford to shoot that percentage probably because they take enough threes to make a lot of them, even with that percentage. And if they miss, they probably get some second chance points.

Statistics at this point are meaningless. They are a Top 10 team with a Top 5 coach. They know how to win. I think they were still short-handed some last night. Don't know if that will be the case on Saturday. Likely won't matter, but it did last night.

Works only if their opponents don't make them pay for all those wasted possessions.

Right now Sagarin has Florida ranked as the #13 team in the country.

I find it interesting we are going the juco route after getting off of jucos for the most part.

I go back and forth on it. I tend to think we get better talent in jucos but do t want the talent to stare at the bench because it takes 5 years to learn Steve's system

RE: Florida pre-game thread
I wonder what my expectations reasonably ought to be for the three money games. Sure, I would love to win one of them, but realistically that wouldn't happen one year out of several. I guess I would like to be competitive in at least two of them, and come out of it saying that we were not totally out of our league.

That would be nice. We sure didn't do that last year. I still think we can play with Oklahoma. Florida and Memphis scare me because they are athletic teams and if they get on a role with a crowd behind them it could get ugly quick.

Isom on the boards
He is not built for it (neither is James White), but Isom had 4 rebounds in 17 minutes against NT. Wonder if he could develop a knack for it. Would help, if he is going to play the 4.

RE: Florida pre-game thread
Jucos are fine if you sign the right ones. And I think signing them in the early signing period is a plus. I always think back to Brandon Freeman. If we hadn't signed him in the early period, we'd have never gotten him, and he was a fine player for us. And how about Fowler, Isler, Graber, D'Andre Williams. And Thomas and Smith this year could turn out to be very good for us. I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but I've always like the Juco route because you can get an instant fix while waiting for Freshmen to mature. Also like transfers. Haven't gotten any lately, but in the past we did pretty well with transfers from major conferences.
