Pat Buchanan: Is red state America seceding?
Link to article

He discusses various breakups of countries and secessionist movements. It's the natural tendencies of nations to break apart when their rulers no longer represent the interests of the regional and local communities.

Sectionalism is certainly on the rise. Is it at pre-Civil War era levels? I don't know and I think that's near impossible to gauge.

I think that we can all agree the disconnect and divide is getting worse.

The President's half-brother got an IRS tax exclusion to train AQ while Tea Parties were stonewalled. He gave weapons to AQ to fight in Syria.

Civil Wat era levels? Bet the farm.

We'll let you guys keep the trailer parks and double wides. I don't know what us blue staters will do. How can we go on missing out on all that red state culture? The creationism museum. All the best Nascar tracks? Well I guess we can still claim Daytona. Florida stays blue.

You just highlighted the sectionalism at the heart of the conversation; thank you.

The North would certainly be a more liked country in the eyes of the world. I assume the South would try to invade anyone and everyone that isn't white. It's what America's done for 50 years.

Pat is always preaching separation. He's a divide and conquer guy. I'm just wondering what all those red states are going to do with the Mexicans. Much rather have Canada on my border.

LOL!

Funny story, there was a tribal chief from North Dakota that was in Birmingham as a party to a case I was doing a while back. I took him around the city to show him everything and we were talking and all when we pulled up by a Home Depot with a bunch of day laborers out in front. He asked me what they were doing and I explained when he looked at me, and with a shocked/confused look on his face, said, "the Canadians don't do that."

I almost crashed I laughed so dang hard.

The only state I really see potentially leaving is Texas and I have my doubts they will.

When a lot of the print media sides with one party and starts calling the other names like Jihadist and Suicide Bomber to play fear politics it is clear it isn't going to get better.

I for one say let the left coast hook up with Mexico The North East Canada, then normal America can stay together. The debt would be split based on population of the spinoffs. So the liberal North East and Left Coast would take what they deserve.

I don't think it will happen. But I think we may have reached the point where the divisions are so great that we would be better off if it did. I look at the splits that some have proposed, and my first reaction is that I would rather live in EITHER of the post-split countries than in the one that this is becoming.

I don't see any way things get better from here. I think we just fight more and more as we fall further down the tubes.

Or....... The GOP can change so they are tolerated by the electorate again...... That's a thought.

The large splits in ideology also mean both parties have to promise more "gifts" to voters to win control of the government. That system drives up the debt and creates a redistribution system and crony capitalism.

Yes, they could start giving more FREE STUFF to voters like the democrats. The problem with that is sooner or later the FREE STUFF will be worthless when the US Dollar becomes worthless.

What I'd prefer to see is for BOTH parties to change to where I could tolerate either one. Because right now I have no use for either. Stupid party versus evil party.

The most idiotic post I've seen in a while. I've lived in NY, CT, IL, and TX. You can keep the murder capital of the U.S. (Chicago), the slums of the South Bronx, and the toxic waste dumps of New Jersey. Enjoy.

You're an a$$.

My view generally matches your view, however I think we'll reach a tipping point at some point. Washington can't govern the states effectively anymore. Regional identity divisions are growing. Political differences are widening. Most importantly, we're going bankrupt. It happened to Rome, the USSR, and pretty much every nation in history. I don't think we're "special" or avoid a breakup.
