RE: Why stadium expansion is not on the UT radar
I'd hate to see us bind ourselves in with no feasibility for expansion, though. One of the immediate problems with hosting record crowds is egress. We all know the fire marshal clamped down on attendance several years back. In the "upgrade" plan they should do something to provide the necessary egress for larger crowds and, in conjunction, design in an arrangement for temporary bleachers to expand seating when necessary. It may mean redesigning the fencing and gating, and taking out more of the stone wall at the south end. Yes, we love the old stone work, but I'm sure something attractive and in keeping with the architecture of the university could be done. Look how nice the alumni pavilion is. They could put in nice stone pillars with some sort of aesthetic gates that could be swung open. I know there is at least one gate in there now, but there may have to be more done. If permanent expansion isn't realistic, at least do something so larger crowds can be accomodated on an as needed basis.

They can bring in bleachers still. Not that many but some. There is a lot of room behind the student section. If in the next three seasons it was needed they could add seats. For now, lets not make our stadium look more empty due to empty seats.

Glass Bowl doesn't necessarily need an expansion, but a complete stadium renovation is long over due (and hey, while you're at it, why not add a few more seats?). Take the Savage Arena renovation for example. Glass Bowl needs a similar renovation now. It is still one of the nicest stadiums in the conference, but a complete overhaul of the stadium would take it over the top. Right now, I'd say Akron has one of the nicer stadiums (because it's brand new).

Room to set them up is one thing, but whether the fire marshal will permit enough people in the stadium to sit on them is another. I don't know what that number is. Won't need to worry about it this year, though.
