Youre kidding, right?
No, clearly low cost of living means said place is undesirable...
Spoken like someone with a very narrow worldview. So more expensive automatically means better?

The price of a shithole in Harlem will by you a mansion in Texas, Florida, and many other places.

I'm just curious why you might think that IQ is a valid measure one way but not the other.
See me I think it's a crap measure all together....

Because settling down into a home and starting a family is easier.
It's also worth noting that the cost of living is almost always tied to population density and not politics or quality of living...

In most of MS, $1,000 per month is about all you need to cover all expenses and live comfortably. In most cities, that won't even pay rent on a 1br apartment. Money isn't everything and just because a lot of people don't need a higher education and choose not to join the rat race doesn't make them stupider. The opposite could actually be argued.

RE: how come blue states are smarter than red states?
the lower cost of living in the red states doesnt make up for the much lower average wage
cons really dont understand this part of the whole cost of living argument
making $50,000 in NYC is comprable to......
Comparable salary in Hattiesburg, MS
$20,818
Price difference in Hattiesburg, MS
Groceries 31%less
Housing 82%less
Utilities 22%less
Transportation 20%less
Health Care 21%less
so to be clear you are trading away 60% of your salary in exchange for a 30% average decrease in cost of living

"smarter", I'm guessing, you define as IQ. IQ is very localized in each state and I'm sure there are parts of every state, right down to individual communities, that would rank higher or lower than other parts. I would agree in so far as there are more large urban areas in blue states and the cost of living is higher there so that requires a higher income and that's an evolution of having higher paying jobs. So, in short you're probably right but I define intelligence not by what you know but by ones ability to learn and I don't see any area of the country having an advantage there.

This is quite the little bee in your bonnet, isn't it johnny?
I'll translate the quaint colloquialism I just laid on you because I'm nice like that; bee in your bonnet = your fixation.

You'll have to show some evidence first.
Then you'll have to discuss the validity of your method.
Then you'll have to discuss multiple intelligence theory.

Apples and oranges... you can't just average all the percentages. You can eat up your entire salary in the 82% housing when your 700 sqft apartment in NY cost $2,000 per month and the taxes on the family farm you already own outright run $400 per month. Then the cost of groceries become less relevant because you grow and kill much of your own food and transportation becomes less relevant because you don't have to commute. Then you look at quality of life. The government nanny may not take care of everything for you (btw I don't see taxes in your post), but you get to live at a slower pace where your neighbors have time to say high and you don't have the stress of keeping up with the Joneses. Two different lifestyles altogether.

How do you explain NC? No unions so lower than national average wages. However, NC has one of the highest migration in rates of any state in the country.

you cant use percentages? its just an easier way to show the info rather than straight up $$$$. its literally the same info.
and fyi the 82% is because i didnt just pick NYC. i picked Manhattan. chancge it to queens and housing gets dropped to 62%
compare the two different lifestyles all you want. but stress of no neighbors = more transportation costs.
more taxes = better quality of life (schools, roads, public services)
hunting for food = time spent
all those things have something that negate them

Who the f*ck starts a thread about smarts, and starts it off with "how come?"
Ironically, john, you're from a blue state.
You should have just said "Why come blue states is smarter then red states?"
