Remaining Undefeated and Winless Teams (after week 4)
Probably will add in 1 loss teams within a week or two.
Teams with 1st loss week 4: 6
North Carolina State
Michigan State
Arkansas
Arizona State
Texas State
Auburn
Teams with 1st win week 4: 2
UAB
Memphis
Percent of Last Week's Undefeated Teams with 1st loss:
Week 1: 41.13% (51 of 124)
Week 2: 31.51% (23 of 73)
Week 3: 30% (15 of 50)
Week 4: 17.14% (6 of 35)
Week 4 Thoughts: Not the most interesting of weeks. Stanford killed previously unbeaten Arizona State and Clemson did the same to North Carolina State. Maryland staying unbeaten by killing West Virginia 37-0 with other good results suggests this might finally be a really good year for the ACC in the BCS.
Texas State loosing to Texas Tech eliminated the last undefeated Sunbelt team. That leaves only Northern Illinois of the MAC (barely beat I-AA Eastern Illinois last night) and Fresno State (who beat Boise State Friday) as undefeated non-AQs.
UAB got a win for the first time in 2 seasons.
Week 5 Thoughts: We have 2 games between undefeated teams and 2 games between winless teams this week. The undefeated teams are #21 Ole Miss @ #1 Alabama and Arizona @ #16 Washington. The winless teams are San Diego State @ New Mexico State and Temple @ Idaho.
Other games of note involving undefeated teams (either involving big names or possible/likely losses) are Virignia Tech @ undefeated Georgia Tech, South Carolina @ undefeated Central Florida, undefeated North Illinois @ Purdue, #6 undefeated LSU @ #9 Georgia, #14 undefeated Oklahoma @ Notre Dame, Iowa @ undefeated Minnesota, #23 Wisconsin @ undefeated #4 Ohio State.
Of all those game, the two that stand out most to me for purposes of this thread are Ohio State/Wisconsin and Central Florida/South Carolina. The winner between Ohio State/Wisconsin will be the big favorite to win the division. Central Florida meanwhile has its toughest test of the season, but if it manages to win this one it, beyond giving the American a lot credibility, it will be likely to be on this list for awhile and instantly become the main competition for Louisville going into conference play.
