More evidence that the conference got stronger in baseball with the realignment. And I like me some baseball.

The SunBelt once App and GSU are in it next year will be a multi bid conference in baseball and softball. I know the conference is already a multi-bid league in these sports but I see that increasing. In baseball I could easily see the SunBelt as a top 4 league.

RE: SBC Baseball Recruiting Classes
We usually have good recruiting classes. Maybe not the top but Harrington and Fikac make better players out of what they have. Last year was such an exception because we lost too much talent to graduation and the draft in 2012. We'll be back.....mark my words.

I doubt it, top ten maybe, even top eight, but getting past the SEC, Pac-12, ACC, Big 12 and Missouri Valley will be a tough hill to climb. Outside of those conferences, top to bottom I bet is possible. Even if nothing else, watching some conferences slide, like C-USA will make that easier.

Anything worse than 7th is a disappointment for SBC baseball...We're always ranked between 5-7 it seems

We've beaten every B12 team we've played in the past 2-3 years (usually splits); except UT. I think just the thought of playing UT gets in the players' heads (that and always playing in Austin with homer umpires)
Between UTA and TXST we upped the WAC RPI last year...until conference play. We kept the SLC RPI top 10 for years (although the SLC is a good BSB conference; just not as good after we left)
OU backed out of a 3 game series last year - chickens

The Sun Belt was 5th last year. Ahead of the Big Ten and CUSA, and I guess the Missouri Valley thing is a joke.

2013 Conference RPI @ WarrenNolan.com

Our Conference RPI will drop over the next two years based on last years RPI's.

We'll drop a little initially, but should return to around #5 within a couple years.

Our Conference RPI will drop over the next two years based on last years RPI's.

I don't think it will move much. TXST and UTA had to play the conference they were in last year. TXST was rebuilding but UTA and TXST both ended up at the top of the conference. We both, routinely, play B12 schools which helps the RPI, immensely. With the SBC having a high RPI, to start, conference play will not drag our individual RPIs down as much as the WAC did. Ergo, it I don't see the SBC losing much ground, if any.

I hope you're right. The recruiting looks promising.
I was looking at this the other day and created this.

Until last year (because of the WAC) TXST hung between 15 & 45 in RPI for a number of years. I think we return to that this year.
UTA won the reg season WAC title last year and look where they got placed in RPI. Has to tell you something.

Absolutely, but in a conference like ours, the problem isn't the top teams but the bottom. Using the SLC as an example, For ever TXST, UTA, Sam or SE Louisiana, there was a Nicholls, SFA, Central Arkansas and Corpus to bring it down.

The SBC will really need to have a TXST or UTA type team be the bottom level to beat the top teams.

As per the Big 12, the most recent NCAA tourney year, we would have finished second based on winning percentage in the Big 12, but the fact is they are still consistently rated higher, even when Texas has sucked like they have for the last two years. I do believe the SBC had more teams in the tourney than they did last year, but that isn't likely to continue.

UTA won the reg season WAC title last year and look where they got placed in RPI. Has to tell you something.

Agreed, this analysis is flawed. Catmom mentioned they were rebuilding and UTA certainly was to some extent. We finished with a regular season title and TXST was 3rd. Our big issue was the lack of pitching depth, which meant we won a small handful of midweek games. I expect out pitching to be a little deeper this year. Our All-American slugger is back, as is a good portion of the line-up. We will be far better than 149. The SBC doesn't have teams like San Jose, Seattle or Louisiana Tech to drag down the average.

As per the Missouri Valley, it isn't a joke. It can be really frustrating when someone looks at the RPI's then assumes that's how it is and always will be. They had a down year last year, but the Belt did the year before. The loss of Creighton will hurt, but they have Wichita State, Dallas Baptist, Indiana St, Missouri St, Evansville, etc. It is quite common for their conference to have only one or two teams under .500, even the last place conference team. That is quality.

143 RPI for us is an abberation. Our RPI is almost always below 100 and most years we are in the top 75.
