RE: 13 Shot in Chicago park
Got to love them. Chicago sent us Obama, and half the crooks in the administration.
So they know what they are doing there. If you don't believe it, just ask them.
Kind of reminds me of Hawaii and all the cities in the past that have given free
tickets out of town to their homeless to solve their problems.
In 1995 Illinois passed a law saying that candidates for mayor . . . no longer would run under party labels in Chicago.
They had not had a Republican as Mayor since 1931. Guess they never will again.
I think we all know to what party the current mayor, Rahm Emanuel, actually belongs.

RE: 13 Shot in Chicago park
"They've been coming round here looking for people to shoot every night, just gang-banging stuff. It's what they do."
That being true, I can't say I disagree with the first commenter on the page:
Quote:Gangs are nothing more than homeland terrorism and the members and followers have to be treated exactly the same as any organization that has intent to do harm to the people. This is not the old days of organized crime when the mob only killed each other. Until these punks are dealt with harshly and without prejudice, nothing will change.
And this is one of the reasons why I favor the decriminalization of "victimless" crimes. Someone smoking a doobie, paying for an 'escort,' gambling in a card game somewhere... who cares. Instead, turn our finite police resources to this and rip the heart out of these gangs (and decriminalizing the aforementioned soft drugs would actually be a start). And in an optimal scenario, the thugs who shot that 3-year-old would be hunted and killed, instead of going to jail for several years where they can still have their fun hanging with fellow gang members in courtyards, then released to do the same thing again.

Agree totally. Particularly the victimless crimes argument.
The gun control advocates want to solve the problem by doing everything EXCEPT what is necessary to solve the problem--punishing those gang bangers.

Some folks seem to think that if you get rid of all the guns the violence will disappear. Maybe the gun violence will be gone, but some other form of violence will just take its place. Getting totally rid of the guns is like treating the sympton and not the disease.

Said it many times, get a tough sheriff like Joe Arpaio, not him but like him, put politics and ACLU type stub the toes things out of the way by declaring Marshall Law, or pass a law, and stand back. Allow stop and search, don't hinder them.

110% agree... Why are they like that? Going to jail, hanging with their homies, and then getting out in a few years is how they "earn" rank many times.

RE: 13 Shot in Chicago park
Something has got to be done in Chicago. It is obvious that Obama and Rahm could care less about the senseless slaughter of black on black shootings. Martial law in the gang areas or something has to be done. This can't be allowed to continue. The breakdown of society has happened and drastic measures need to be taken.

RE: 13 Shot in Chicago park
NYC has 3x the population of Chicago, but only half the murders. If my math is correct, that means Chicago's murder rate is 6x higher.
It's simple ... Chicago needs to do what NYC does (stop & frisk, etc.).

I'm sure they care. They care that if it is talked about, it will make them look bad. So they just ignore the issue.

RE: 13 Shot in Chicago park
You wanna see Chicago explode? Elect a republican mayor and have all these murders occur under his watch. He would be branded the biggest racist in the country if; A) the murders continue to happen. B) He tried to stop them by targeting those most likely to be murdering thugs.

RE: 13 Shot in Chicago park
wrapping up my whirlwind, spent the last night in chicago. my lady's brother lives in wrigleyville-ish. you'd never know chicago had problems. have visited friends in wicker park and near downtown, never felt so safe. and then there's the forgotten wild west chicago. as long as the loop and burbs are cool then chicago has no problems it seems

What is necessary is to put an education system in place that's not complete ****. What is necessary is to lower income inequality. What is necessary is to get jobs on the market.
Giving someone the chair or prison sentences doesn't help. And we already have the highest prison population per capita in the world.
