Is Florida ready to be a national title contender again, or will they lay an egg and give support to the detractors who say the Gators job is too big for Muschamp? Miami might show they're close to being back to national relevance, or they might again look like they're just teasing. We'll find out on Saturday.
Good point, the Mich/ND game will answer some questions too... Is ND legit, is Mich a powerhouse? I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Miami beat Florida. I didn't think they were anything special last year, don't think they're anything special this year either... Driskill, to be honest, sucks.
Is a team that won 13 of its last 14 games, 20 of its last 22 regular season games and 25 of its last 29 games "legit"?
What does it take to become "legit"?
Wow, you cherry picked like a son of a b*tch didn't you? Since you want to talk wins and losses, let's go into detail. Under Brian Kelly.
2010: 8-5, played two ranked teams, beat one that ended the season at 10-3 and ranked #23.
2011: 8-5, played three ranked teams, beat one that ended the season at 11-3 and ranked #11. Ended up a good win.
2012: 12-1, played five ranked teams, beat four of them. MichSt ended up 7-6 and unranked, Mich ended up 8-5 and #24, Stanford ended up 12-2 and #7, Oklahoma ended up 10-3 and #15.
Then ND played Alabama and acted like they had no idea what football was.
Out of all the ranked teams ND beat in the timeframe you mentioned, one ended up in the top 10, and one JUST outside of the top ten, one right in the middle, and two at the bottom.
So, like I said, I just want to see if Notre Dame is legit this year. If we were cherry picking streaks, I would throw it out there that LSU has won an NCAA record 42 non conference regular season games in a row.
I picked the last 29 games played and that is "cherry picking"?
Other fans usually claim ND fans "live in the distant past". So, I was consciously trying to do the opposite.
I was picking the last 14-29 games played. Those seemed relevant to now and the near future.
Those are the most recent games played, not ancient history. I happen to see a trend from those most recent games.
I also was not "flipping out". That was a bit of a melodramatic overstatement on your part.
The 42 LSU OOC wins in a row is very commendable. That records is over what, 14 years----many of them La. Monroe, UAB, etc..? (Although LSU does schedule one good OOC game a year like TCU, WVU, Oregon).
See, that would be "cherry picking", in my opinion.
I also knew about that number since I have lived in Baton Rouge since 1983 and graduated from LSU Law School (although I am no Tiger fan).
P.S. I happen to think that if another team put up the recent won/loss numbers I posted (hypothetically, say Texas, Michigan, Florida State, for instance) but didn't have "Notre Dame" on their uniforms, not many people would be asking if "they are legit".
I did cherry pick... I cherry picked my own streak... I don't have a problem with Notre Dame, I was just wondering if they were legit. Sure they went through the year undefeated, but too many close calls with bad teams, getting blown out in the NC game against an Alabama who came within 2 plays of losing 3 games... I'm also looking to see if Michigan is legit dude, and Texas isn't impressive, neither is FSU... FSU played 3 teams with a pulse last year, barely beating Clemson, losing to a mediocre Florida and getting beat by NC State... Matter of fact, I'd bet on ND to beat Texas or FSU, and easily, but Michigan is a toss-up. By legit, I guess I'm saying I would like to see if they can handle the pressure in a big game that has a trophy on the line, but I wasn't by any means insulting Notre Dame.
