RE: BCS bowl game picks for this year
the order this year is Orange, Sugar, Fiesta
Title- Alabama/Ohio St
Rose- Notre Dame/Oregon(don't see 2nd Big Ten team being BCS eligible)
Sugar- Florida/Louisville
Orange- Clemson/Oklahoma
Fiesta- Texas/Boise St

Why does everyone think Alabama is going to go again? I see them losing to LSU... And other than A&M, they have cream puffs for the rest of their oh so horribly tough season.

You actually may not be far off... As an LSU fan, I think we can beat Alabama, but our downstretch includes Alabama, A&M, Georgia, and Florida... Alabama's downstretch includes A&M and LSU...
With that recipe, we knock off Abalama, then get beat by one of the other top 10 teams we have to face, an SEC team may not make it to the BCSNC this year...

RE: BCS bowl game picks for this year
The championship game is suck a crapshoot. It's basically betting which programs will narrowly win the closest game they have instead of lose it or betting that all of them will lose and go with who looks best with one loss.
My preseason predictions are bound to be terrible as I can't keep track of players (names and faces have always been a serious weakness of mine) and judge things in season mostly on resume and how teams as a whole looked. Regardless, I'll go with
BCS Championship Bowl
Alabama vs. Oregon
Rose Bowl
Ohio State vs. Stanford
Orange Bowl
Florida State vs. Texas
Fiesta Bowl
Oklahoma vs. Rutgers
Sugar Bowl
LSU vs. San Diego State
Logic: I think Texas A&M probably overachieved last year and LSU plays at Alabama. Alabama is probably still the best in the league and if they win the SEC, they'll be in the championship unless there are 2 undefeated schools from power conferences (and even if there were, a lot would try to put them in, over some schools they'd be successful). I bet there's not two though.
I think Ohio State needs to go unbeaten to make it, but will hit a roadblock someplace due (most likely vs. Wisconsin or @Michigan). They'll still win the division though and the Big Ten title. Similar factors are at play with Oklahoma and Florida State.
My picks of Rutgers and San Diego State were kind of picks for the field. I think Louisville is mostly likely of any team to win the American, but over-hyped and the winner will be less expected. I think some non-AQ team will be in, but think Boise State's chances, while better than any individual program, are still a lot less than half so instead gave it to San Diego State.

I'd really like this as end result. Beyond it being good for my team, it's the last national championship game in Pasadena under this system so Big Ten vs. PAC-12 would be nice. It also keeps the 2 conferences for the 100th ever Rose Bowl.
I'd like to see South Carolina win the SEC too. It would be a good story even if I think it's pretty unlikely.

Seeing some that are putting a team like a Rutgers in the Orange Bowl...
That won't happen...
The selection order this year is
1 Orange
2 Sugar
3 Fiesta
There is no way at all that the Orange will select a Rutgers over a Michigan for instance.
nor would the Orange select a Boise State over Notre Dame
also have to remember, that the replacement team must be in the top 14 to be eligible to be a replacement.

RE: BCS bowl game picks for this year
only thing I'd say Notre Dame(look at their schedule, it's very possible they are 10-1 heading into Stanford- Michigan St, Oklahoma, and USC games look a LOT easier now, and the others weren't all that challenging). ND is 10-2 and they are in the top 14 and in the Orange Bowl this year probably no matter what(even over Ohio St). Ohio St drops to the Sugar Bowl if they are eligible and FSU is the odd team out.

RE: BCS bowl game picks for this year
Here's a scenario I'm curious to see play out...
If the Cornhuskers get by UCLA this weekend (something I don't think happens, but they're favorites, so IF...) they project to be favored in every game but the Michigan game. Let's say they win every game besides Michigan the rest of the way. Let's also say Michigan runs the table the rest of the way, beating OSU twice in the process.
With Michigan (in that scenario) almost definitely playing for a National Title, who gets the nod as the 2nd Big Ten Team:
an 11-1 Nebraska team who's only loss would be to Michigan, or a 11-2 Ohio St team whose only two losses would be to Michigan.
Basically, I'm fascinated to see who the Bowl people think travels better.

RE: BCS bowl game picks for this year
I think being in the Rose changes the equation a lot. I think in normal years it would be Ohio State, but I think given it'd be a first time, it would be Nebraska.
I think if it wasn't the Rose, I could see Nebraska as well, I mean, Ohio St would have 2 losses in a row.

RE: BCS bowl game picks for this year
Nebraska played in the January 2002 Rose Bowl, and lost to Miami, in a year when the Rose Bowl was the BCS title game. That was one of the infamous BCS ratings scroo-ups; the ratings put Nebraska in the game even though they didn't win the Big 12 North and got demolished 62-36 by Colorado in their last regular-season game.
I'm sure the Rose would love to have the Huskers again, they'd bring as many or more fans to Pasadena as Ohio State or any other Big Ten team. IMO the Rose would go with the highest-ranked team in that scenario.

I'd think Nebraska would be higher ranked quite frankly...
Also, might hinge on who is the Pac 12 rep. If it was somehow UCLA, it'd be Ohio St going to avoid the rematch.

PASS
1) NO WAY does the Orange take any team from the AAC - and especially not Louisville, who join the ACC just next year (Nothing against the ACC, this is because the OB were forced to take the Big East too many times in the recent past, and last year they were forced to take NIU;. Instead, they will go for ticket sales, pure & simple - total cash grab.
2) With 2 teams in the top 10, a 3rd at #15, and 2 more between 26 and 35, I don't think the ACC will have a problem getting 2 teams to finish in the top 14.

RE: BCS bowl game picks for this year
I was saying top 14 in general- not talking about ACC.
I totally agree with you- this is the one year that the Orange is in total control. I expect either Notre Dame or a Big Ten school. Where it would get tough for the Orange would be if say the title game is Alabama/Ohio St, and Michigan replaces Ohio St in the Rose Bowl. I expect a lot of SEC teams in the top 14, right now there are 5 teams. There's 3 ACC teams in the top 15 this week. 2 Big Ten, 2 Pac 12, 1 AAC, and 2 Big 12. If Big 12 were to lose one of those 2 teams, ACC team, Stanford, and Louisville would be the 3 at large selections. If Louisville is 12-0, it'd be best selection possible I think for the Orange.
Heck, look at the top 20 right now in AP...
SEC- 6 teams
Pac 12- 4 teams
ACC- 3 teams
Big Ten- 4 teams
Big 12- 2 teams
AAC- 1 team
Baylor and TCU are the only other Big 12 teams in the top 25. If Big 12 gets only 1 team in the final top 14, and instead of ACC having 2 teams in, they have 3 teams in- it's not going to be pretty for the Orange Bowl quite frankly...
