UNT A Little Closer To Adding Baseball
UNT Regent Speaks

"Potts said UNT has money from boosters available that would allow the school to build a $7 million stadium after a portion of the cost is bonded out."

I think 2015 has always been the target date.

What kind of college baseball stadium can you build for $7 million because I don't have a clue? Just curious, fellow CUSA'ers who have baseball programs.

I had no clue UNT was absent of a baseball program. Hopefully everything works out..

RE: UNT A Little Closer To Adding Baseball
UNT and UTEP will be the only two programs in CUSA going forward who do not have baseball programs.

$7 million should cover the cost of a pretty nice field, a rudimentary practice facility, concession stands, a ticket office, a basic press box, and an aluminum grandstand for a few hundred people. It won't be anything fancy. There won't be ivy-covered brick fences or fancy video boards. It will be a good place to start, though.

It would be a good addition for your school. Texas is a good baseball state. You'd be able to recruit from a deep talent pool. And who knows? After a few years of playing, you could have a good team.

I'd love for it to happen, guys. MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Could probably get more than you're thinking.

Charlotte got a press box, two suites, a concession, 1,500 seats (500 chairbacks, 1000 bleacher seats), new dugouts, and some other goodies for 5 million.

We already had the field though, so maybe that makes a big difference. I honestly have no idea how much the field portion costs.

I don't think we'll be adding baseball any time soon, El Paso just got a triple A team, so we're probably not adding baseball.

getting a triple A team means no baseball for UTEP? Can you explain that logic to me?

You guys could share the stadium if it's close enough to UTEP

UNT already has the land for this new baseball stadium inside the Mean Green Village.

A former P5 conference commish' and well known NCAA consultant,ie, Chuck Neinas says we got a heckuva' financial deal with our football stadium as far as the price was concerned. Maybe we can do the same with this new baseball stadium?

TCU has a great baseball stadium but they put more than $7 mil' into their as I recall. I hope UNT pulls out all the stops with ours. Heck, UNT officials should go to a Texas Ranger MLB player and build a nice one merely on one of their signing bonuses alone (and then name the darn stadium after that player, right)? Easy as that, right? LOL!

I do know there has been over-whelming interest for this college baseball manager's job due to location and access to some pretty good baseball talent. I think I read SMU may be reviving their baseball program again, too. TEXAS IS GOING COLLEGE BASEBALL CRAZY! lol!

Had no idea you guys and UTEP didn't have a baseball program! Did you and UTEP have one in the past and then shut it down, or have you just never had one to begin with? Would be awesome if you guys add it. I'm not a big fan of the sport, but the only time I do enjoy it (softball as well) is when UTSA is playing. I just could never get into MLB.

I heard the new stadium will have 2,500 seats, a few suites, and dugout access from the locker rooms. He also said something about a tailgating section out past right field. Should be nice.

Will be kinda angry if it is 2500 because of the requirements to host a regional are 3k

well, it could have a capacity of over 3,000.

Charlotte only has 1,500 seats, but capacity is 3,000 because we have hill seating.

I don't know about UTEP, but we had a baseball team in the past, and shut it down (along with men's soccer and tennis) to become Title IX compliant.

You wouldn't need much of a recruiting budget. Tons of talent right in the dallas area. There is a dang fine facility they could use right now at craigs ranch that hosts a good summer league for college players. Nice stadium.
