I'm guilty of that one at times so I let it slide.

I was going to issue a citation for it, but let it slide because of his correct usage of "too".

I believe positive reinforcement can also be effective

I would like the Museum cover other episodes of genocide as well. What happened to the Jews also happened to the Chinese during the Cultural Revolution, in Cambodia, in Rwanda, in North Korea, in Burma.

Re: Is anyone here a haulocost denier?
Is this how Obama plans on exterminating his political opponents? First he'll identify them using the NSA, then target them using the IRS(oops too late) , then when the government has all of our medical records and the IRS, who previously targeted conservative groups, will selectively target conservatives for higher premiums and/or auditing. Finally the bureaucratic machine administering Obamacare will deny claims to conservatives.

Positive Rep me and I'll vote for Obama in 2016

I disagree to this to an extent... it seems the same as diluting things like amber alerts with the horrid "my ex-husband didn't drop off the kids on time" (those were explicitly and puposefully excluded in the original alerts). The holocaust was a singular event and I think deserves to be remembered in its own context. That said, I think that "never again" places a unique burden on Jews worldwide to expose, prevent, and relieve genocide worldwide when it does occur.

One of the problems with what you propose is that Armenians would certainly demand their own sections, and once you do so, it becomes a target of derision from Turks, and the message for Muslims is that you equate the Holocaust, which hopefully one day Muslims will stop disputing in large numbers, with the vehemently disputed Armenian genocide, which was purportedly committed by Muslims, and as long as Turkey disputes it, probably would not be accepted by the Muslim world.

Holocaust means burnt offering.

Ignoring the etymology and limiting the term to one hyperbolically labeled event is crazy talk.

But it's what we do in America, we advantageously change the meaning of words.

Shizzle, I think that's why we're having fun... cause honestly, I don't think anyone here is a holocaust denier... so it was one of those question that just lent itself to being made fun of..

and then the stone just kept rolling downhill :)

You're right about the spelling.......... but I did actually laugh out loud when I read the first few posts after the original, "costs of hauling" stuff.

Still makes me laugh.............

The purpose of the museums are to commemorate the event and the purposeful, overt, and systematic attempt to extinguish a race. Focussing on etymology and calling the use of the word hyperbole is just an incremental step above the spelling corrections above in is thread. The museums weren't created to commemorate a word and then seek instances for which they apply...

I'm fully support the mission of the museum(s), and I have no problem with them calling it "Holocaust".

I'm saying we shouldn't take a term like Holocaust and exclusively apply it to one event. Particularly when the word has an ordinal distinct meaning quite different from it's present exaggerated use.

If we are going to solely assign words to one isolated event, we should go ahead and give the word Pink to Susan G. Komen.
