I just ordered these boards from Victory Tailgate:

They are pricey but look to be made well. I will be looking for competition at Hanson Field on August 31st! 04-cheers

You didn't ask them to move the logo down 3 inches and instead of purple they need to make the stripe gold. Oh, and you'll want them to darken the stain a bit as well. Oh, just forget it!

They look nice and appear sturdy, enjoy!

Has anyone made their own? I have a finish picked out and am just going to do the block JMU letters logo at the bottom, but I wanted to put a protective finish on the top that would still let the bags slide without sticking or sliding too much.

I am not a carpenter by any means, but I made my own...I wasn't happy with the quality of them compared to others, so I ended up buying another set pre-assembled, but unfinished. I did the rest of the work. The guy that made them for me recommended poly-acrylic to finish them after I painted them. That also helped to keep the sticker of the logo on the boards and I don't have to worry about them coming off.

Awesome! Are you happy with the way the bags slide or don't slide on the board? Any particular poly-acrylic you recommend?

RE: Summer Topic II - Cornhole boards
With new bags & a fresh finish, they will slide off very quickly/easily. Once the bags are broken in they don't slide as much, but they don't stick either. I think this has more to do with the bags than the finish, because I got new bags last year and initially had the same problem, but again, once the bags were broken in, it was much better.

I used Minwax brand, but that is because it was the only brand Lowe's had. So I can't really say that I have a recommendation one way or another for brand. I just did a search on their website, and I realized it is actually called "polycrylic". I also noticed that they have multiple options for the sheen, and I don't know which one I used, but it is most likely semigloss or glossy.

I've never done this personally, so take it with a grain of salt, but if the boards are too slick, you can always use some sand paper to mitigate the sliding. You'd want to make sure you added a few layers to your boards before doing so, to make sure you didn't damage the paint.

Nice boards!

Anyone know if Sam's Cornhole Bags has special JMU colors or do you just order the generic purple & gold. I need a spare set by this weekend.

RE: Summer Topic II - Cornhole boards
Hey I am currently make my own set of boards that my girlfriend bought me for my birthday. I am not that artistic and was wondering if anyone had ideas about where to obtain the JMU logo/decal?

Also I am kinda a perfectionist and want the exact JMU colors and there any place that I could take the JMU color palette and they mix the right color or am I stuck with trying to match the colors at home depot aka purple passion and gold buff? where do they get these names anyways?????

There is no reason you cannot take a very good print from this page ( http://www.jmu.edu/identity/colors.shtml ) to HD, Lowes, or any paint store and have them mix very accurate paint for you.

Well, I have made my purchase choice and am going with the boards in this picture

They are a little more expensive than some other options I found, but are built to last.

Hart, I am ordering the exact same set. Nothhing beats the added touch of the water mark in the background. How long did they say it would take to make?

Lowes has been doing team colors for years. The JMU purple I've bought there in previous years has been solid. Gold was a little off and I didn't buy that again but that was 5 years ago. Not sure where you're buying, but if it's in Harrisonburg I don't think the guy even looked the code up last time they just know what JMU purple is haha.

Boards arrived today. I did not get the tailgate (smaller) version. They are solid and look great.

I will be getting a workout carrying them around. They are heavy. I did get the bag so that should help.

Will be taking them to a party tonight to break them in!

For matching hues, I think you want to look for 'Vegas Gold'. It's a little darker than regular gold.

So JMU colors are a royal purple and a Vegas gold? Sounds like Liberace was involved in choosing our school colors.

Though I love our school colors, I'm assuming we were still an all female school when they were chosen. This is just a guess, I don't feel the need to look up the answer as to when the decision was made.

In addition, I was told, when JMU had the first few males on campus, the gay community was well represented. I hope this statement is not offensive, I am only stating what I thought to be true without any facts, I could very well be wrong, and in no way meaning to put anyone in a defensive position.
