Not a lot of details, but the way he casually said it makes it sound like there have been concrete discussions on the matter.

You can listen to the whole interview there, but he doesn't mention expansion until the last minute or so.

The radio host unfortunately doesn't ask him to elaborate on it, but it is the first time we've heard anyone with the program speak about expansion within a date range.

You guys need to do it immediately after the season ends. There's more than enough demand as well as donors to make it happen. Go big.

Can anyone show 70,000? Just for fun. I love the design.

I don't believe there have been any renderings beyond 40k.

Maximum size is 60,000, but no renderings exist for that. Not publicly at least.

I remember seeing the design for the 60,000 seat model. It's been back before they started construction.

I dont recall ever seeing a rendering for 60,000, only reading that expansion to that volume would require filling in the top of the horseshoe with the upper deck and that this would block the sight line through the stadium and across the campus.

I think if demand ever got that high, they'd explore other options. They'd probably demolish the current field house, put those facilities under the expanded stadium and bowl it in, similar to the Murphy Center at NC State.

http://www.gopack.com/facilities/murphy-center.html

Keep in mind, at that point, we'd be drawing more than ECU does currently. I think if we get that large in the next 25 years, then we at Charlotte will be having some pretty darn good football years.

I could see building the suite level side after this season...and then waiting for demand to go to 40K. 25K is really a minimum for Charlotte at the CUSA level...and really if they want to attract the best recruits 40K is going to be necessary.

Don't see the point of going much above 40K...if you have a big game with high attendance you can move it to the Panthers Stadium, like Cincinnati has done when they played Oklahoma.

For most G5 programs 40,000 will be plenty large. If you have plans to enter the ACC then 60,000 would be required.

Hey UH! What does you latest rendering look like and do you have a pic of construction. Will it be 40K or 45K?

Great job Charlotte on your stadium.04-cheers

Wake and Duke both play in 30-35,000 seat stadiums.

They are already in the ACC, they couldn't get in now with those stadiums.

The fact anyone is discussing that we would ever be in the ACC is laughable. UNC Chapel Hill, NC State, Duke, and Wake would all have to burn to the ground for this to happen, even then it is a long shot.

Or go to the BigTen or SEC?

But anyway, I don't think it was legitimate talk of going to the ACC, just a reference between G5 and P5 stadium sizes

Like HP said, I don't really see any reason to go above the 40,000 seat stadium. If there are big time games that would attract more than 40,000, just put the game at BoA...or add some temp seating in the concourse of the endzone. Could probably fit a few thousand extra seats there in a pinch.

Not so sure about that, but its a moot point anyway. BTW, BC got in just a few years ago and their stadium only seats ~44,000 IIRC.

I think Charlotte and ODU will be the marquee teams in another 5-7 years.

Our AD was too lazy to do the fundraising required.

This...if we consistently fill 40k then football will have been a major success, and if the occasional game/rivalry (be it with Marshall, ODU, App, or ECU) calls for a larger venue..well we do have a pretty good relationship with the guy who owns the other stadium in town 03-wink

We didn't build an on-campus stadium to play our equivalent opponents at BoA just to squeeze in a few thousand more people. Niner games a BoA should be extremely rare and special events against top 5 teams. Otherwise let's get our money's worth and play at home. The goal should be to make single game football tickets non-existent and always in demand. Better to have 40,000 packing Richardson to the brim, than to sell 60,000 at BoA and have 12,000 empty seats.

That is a nice thought, however, I can't imagine the athletic program turning down the financial boost (conservatively $500,000/game) that an additional 20,000 paying fans would likely create if big games can draw over 60,000 fans at BOA.

The problem is the rental fee for BoA would eat much of that "extra $" up as it is rumored to be in the 6-figure range. Unless of course, Jerry (or his successor) decides to give us a break on that.
