Yep, we scored the next play I think.....my favorite Tiger kick returner ever was Jerry Harris...little guy could do it. I remember him taking one against USM about 100, he was always a threat.

That's a true story.
Before 96 special team practice was a LOT more fun when J. Murray Armstrong was coaching up the scout team. On a kickoff, he could be on the 30 yard line and you could hear him yell (clearly) from the opposite goal line.
I think our special teams would have been better the last 15 years if he was still around.

That was when I was a freshman/soph in college, Jerry was awesome! Little guy that could scoot.....

I could have sworn that DeAngelo ran one back his freshman year. I remember him looking at the jumbotron to see if anyone was behind him. Was that an exhibition game?

nope against Tulane in 2002, was a 85 yard run or so.

Yep!!!
And would've beat them in 92' if Stobie had listened to Murray and Vic and rushed Tom Hutton on that last punt. That was a pretty intense scene in the locker room after the game when Coach Butler and others had to restrain Coach A from ripping Stobart's head off!!!

AHHH Bert....I was in good mood today before I started thinking about all that.
Murray did actually call the 10 man special punt block on that infamous play. After the game he was kind of muttering to himself and Vic is the one that had to open his mouth saying they should not have done it. Now Vic had played in the NFL, but if three or four people didn't hold Murray back he would have killed Vic then and there. They got along fine before and after but the emotions of that game for Murray were just too much. Stobart just looked around stunned and confused, which was pretty much SOP.
I hate to sound spiteful, but I can't help it. I remember the summer before that game in 92 walking out of the complex, looking over on field one, and seeing Hutton out there in his orange shirt punting on our practice field. Who knew that in November he would be at the Liberty Bowl in his own end zone, with a half gale in his face and fire off a punt like he did, when all the momentum was going against them . That was money on his part, but man did it sure cause some pain on ours.

RE: Longest drought in returning a kickoff back for a TD
J.T. Stacy has put his hair up for the Kickoff Return team this year.
They get to cut his hair, if they take one to the house.
It will make every kickoff-return, just a little more interesting.

B/C we rushed him every time before that. And MGR, you are right. I was thinking it was Stobie, but it does make sense it was Vic.
Ah, that explains it. One of the most heart-breaking moments as a Tiger fan was watching that punt sail over Copeland's head and him trying (unsuccessfully) to field it.
Up until that moment, I had NO DOUBT we were going to win that game. No doubt in my mind.
