What's the hold up?
I am sure this is a redundant question, as I am in the habit of asking them often it seems. But someone please remind me, now that July 1 has passed and the NCAA check has cleared, why an announcement is not likely to be made at any moment. Is it simply the Carr report? Surely by now they know what we're doing. I only ask because I keep looking for some news only to be disappointed. Announce it already and let the $ flow in and the excitement build. What the heck is the hold up?

You act as if it's a unilateral decision and that we can simple impose our terms and conditions on the conference of our choosing.

RE: What's the hold up?
If you all remember, from some of my past posts, I tried defending JMU at almost every turn. But even I have lost hope and its one of the reasons I rarely post anymore. I still love JMU and will always enjoy Saturdays in the fall in Harrisonburg but I have just become apathetic to the whole thing. There is no longer the excitement I had when we were going to the playoffs (I was a student for the Landers years), building a new stadium, and anticipating a big move in the future due to our facility enhancement and success on the field.
I will never stop loving JMU, cheering for the Dukes, and giving back to the university, but for now I dont expect anything big to happen and have no where near the excitement for JMU athletics I once did.

There's been no announcement because there's been no news to announce. It's been stated, OVER AND OVER, that they're aware of what's going on, there is an ongoing study and nothing will be decided before that study is complete. So I'm not sure what announcement anybody should be looking for.
This isn't like "hiring" Hal Mumme and there being no announcement.

What's the hold up?
The most basic hold up is that we aren't going to do anything....theoretically...until the Carr Report is finished, which is scheduled for September.

I never expected an announcement on July 1. I also have no doubt that the administration is on top of all of this. However, I disagree (my personal opinion) with how JMU has handled this situation compared to its peer institutions. The hole we have dug is deep and we will be lucky to get out of it. Until that happens, JMU athletics is what it is.

RE: What's the hold up?
I think we'll move but it won't be until after the Carr report is complete. JMU isn't going to spend thousands of dollars on consultants only to decide on a move before said consultants present their findings.
Also, do we know for certain that the report will conclude in September? The last official word I heard was just that it would be complete "this summer."

I totally understand waiting until after the Carr report. My issue is not that they waiting to see all that through. My issue is when every other peer institution was doing these same evaluations over the last five years, why did we wait? Why did we not see the urgency? Why spend all the money we spend (out spending dozens and dozens of FBS programs) to not keep pace with your peers?
I can't think of one other peer institution that has our facilities, our demographics, and our budget/resources, that waited as long as we did to show any initiative.
I have already posted more on this thread as I have in the last month. Few people seem to like when a girl starts talking sports on the message boards so I have said my peace and leave it at that.

I am not acting as if anything. I assume that the terms and conditions are also worked out; "they" means our admin and any other conference with which we will be aligned. How long does it really take? others point to the Carr report, and I guess it makes sense to see that through. I am with Dolly and some others and don't understand the timeline to this point, especially when other institutions seem out in front of this thing.
Could it be that those of us who really want to move up are a small minority of fans and the rest are ambivalent?

I know nothing about you except from what you post on this board but I would bet I could pick you out of a lineup. Why do I say this? I have seen the same chick at both basketball and football games that is over the top full tilt routing for the Dukes. I have always assumed Dolley = this same chick
Are you/were you a blonde during 3-5 years ago?

Not a blonde, and don't make it to any basketball games since I am about 4 hours away from Harrisonburg. Try to make it to as many football games as possible but unfortunately, I don't think you are describing me. However, it would be nice to see a few more females on the board (or maybe they are already here and I just don't realize it).

RE: What's the hold up?
The Sun Belt is likely waiting for JMU to decide, but it will dictate the circumstances, as all conferences do.
From Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson in June:
Quote:The Sun Belt will be an 11-team league starting July 1, 2014, Benson said, and though a 12-team model is “still a possibility,” the league won't further evaluate the issue until after the first of the year.
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball...sion-pause
So; whether it is all sports or just football, unless something is secretly going on with the MAC or the AAC does something unexpected to upset the current balance, JMU is not going to hear/announce anything until early next year.
