In other words, Aresco is babysitting Schrodinger's Cat for a while. Is Aresco making progress, or is Aresco blowing smoke up a journalist's wazoo?

The firmest thing Aresco said was he hopes to announce at least part of the lineup at the end of the month, at The American's media days. So no real news until the end of the month.

Reports on the MWC board say both spots in the Armed Forces have been taken------MWC and CUSA.

Could be, however, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times is a very reputable reporter.

Not doubting Autman....he is just reporting what Aresco said.

I guess that's the new place to get news now. I'm not saying that I take this as the gospel, but I'm more inclined to believe a legitimate writer than a message board.

But is Greg Auman, Ace Reporter saying "AAC in the AFB" or "Aresco says AAC in running for AFB"?

Now, I think it's pretty likely that the AAC is in the Armed Forces Bowl, and wildly unlikely that the AAC is in the Houston bowl.

I'm not blaming Auman--he's not saying "XYZ Is Happening!" He's saying "AAC boss Aresco Says XYZ Could Happen"

He says that Aresco is talking to the Houston Bowl. That could mean lots of things. It could mean nothing. It could mean there are serious talks. It could be the bowl is only interested in the AAC #1 if the Liberty goes a different direction---but not anything else (ie- theres no chance of landing both bowls).

I do think the Meineke Bowl might be very interested in an AAC #1 vs a Big-12 #5/6. That would likely be a pretty decent matchup for them. Despite this, everything tells me that the SEC is probably still going to get the nod there.

The article on the armed forces bowl being a MWC bowl was from ESPN and linked on the MWC board. It was not just a poster source

I'm not disputing the MWC being part of that. McMurphy reported that and I have zero doubts about it being true. The second part about it officially being against C-USA is what I have a feeling is not settled yet.

I agree...MWC will be in this bowl. But McMurphy didn't say for sure opponent would be CUSA...he said "expected" opponents (expected by who? CUSA? AFB? MWC?). Not to mention we have the issue that this bowl already has tie ins the for the next 4 years, 2 of them by a future AAC team (Navy). So there are lots of variables there. Now, of course, one side is already taken by the MWC.

Seems like Arco is promising the world. If it comes to fruition AAC ends up with a solid mix of bowls. As for us if we can land the Armed Forces bowl that would be great. Also a new bowl in Florida is needed for the Eastern block.

I like Banowsky's approach. He isn't saying much, and every time another bowl gets picked up by C-USA (New Mexico & Armed Forces) he looks smart for keeping quiet about it and working hard behind the scenes. If McMurphy's source believes the Armed Forces Bowl is going to C-USA, I'll believe that over Aresco, who is just stating bowls he hopes the AAC can add.

Aresco does have a tendency to be overly optimistic. However, to be fair, all Aresco said was that he was talking to the Meinike and Armed Forces Bowls. That would tend to indicate that at the very least, the Armed Forces Bowl and the Mineke Car Car Bowl situations have not yet been decided. As far as the Armed Forces Bowl goes, I'd say that's the big story here.

I think McMurphy just said the opponents in his MW peice were the "expected" opponents--which may have been his guesses or his sources. It didn't say "sources said". McMurphy is an excellent source, but when it came to the opponents, he did seem to hedge his bets.

I can't get past C-USA and the AAC fighting to win a spot in New Orleans against the Sunbelt. When we all shared C-USA, I don't think any of us particularly cared for that Bowl Game and wanted to avoid it.

I see your point. I guess until everything is officially announced, anything is possible.

I was thinking the same thing. The NO bowl has come along way from a created SB bowl to a desired bowl...ish. I'd have to say its mostly due to its central location. Plus who doesn't want to party in Nawlens.

I agree. C-USA didn't seem to care about this bowl. Some of the new programs have been to this game and love the city. In the current state of college football bowl games are at a premium. There just aren't enough for everyone. That has also made the game more attractive. The geography makes sense for both C-USA and the AAC. Maybe C-USA and the AAC need to get together and start a new bowl in New Orleans. We can call it the Louisiana Bowl, or French Quarter Bowl.

It is still in the Superdome, which is a terrible place to see a football game when it is half-empty (or worse). I saw Rice play in the New Orleans Bowl, and in the Armed Forces Bowl. I much preferred the party that Fort Worth put on, and the game in TCU's beautiful on-campus stadium with the military flyovers.

I work in Fort Worth. It's a great city and TCU has a nice stadium. I hope McMurphy is right and C-USA will be playing the MWC in the Armed Forces Bowl.
