RE: Champlin: UAB gets commitment from Ocala offensive lineman Christopher Hudson
This whole recruiting idea of uab offering kids with no offers is unexciting. I want other schools to be after our recruits because it proves our coaches are doing something right. If the kid chooses uab over the other schools, it shows we are moving in the right direction. Yet I'm not a coach, just being observational.

Don't look for many public commits as the coaching staff realized last year that larger or more established programs come in late and "steal" some of your best "commits".

At the last signing social, CGM sounded positively giddy about finding Jimmy Jean and getting him through the recruiting process below the radar. I'm sure that what WB refers to above is very real.

It is possible we "lost" all of those, however it is also possible that some were told to look elsewhere due to their shopping around.

Who knows? Maybe we "found" some good players after we "lost" some.

All of the above is true. Some players commit so that they are put on radar. They commit to be recruited. In those instances there's nothing you can really do as they look around. Many commit seriously and when a better offer comes along, like Clemson, for example, they take it - can't really blame 'em for that. And then there the "soft" commits that want to "hold" their spot at UAB(as an example) so they commit while actively pursuing other offers. These are the kids that are told, "You shop, we shop!" - especially if they are pursuing other offers perceived as equal or lesser-quality.

Though Hudson pounced on the first Division I offer he received, he did say he would listen if he can improve his stock enough this fall for major-conference schools to come calling.

Holley, who has a long background working with offensive linemen, believes that could happen, especially if Hudson continues his recent trend of early morning work in the weight room and agility drills in the afternoons.

"The work he's putting in, I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be able to get some good film," Holley said, "and I would not be surprised if larger schools make a push and get offers out to him."

I don't really count any commits until their sr years & not until name is on the line. Verbals don't mean much at all these days but he may still live up to it in the end.

Yes, It sounds more like a "promise ring" than an "engagement ring".

If we get this guy in spite of him getting recruiting by bigger schools, we can't celebrate by blasting A Day To Remember songs. "Here's a middle finger coming straight from Oca-l-a!"

I would be shocked if he did. It sounds like he isn't coming to UAB for any other reason than to have a D-1 scholarship to fall back on if nothing else works out.

I hate to sound rude but that was the situation with the majority of uab's roster.

I have a very strong feeling that this will be a great year for UAB. Some of those players who left, will wish they stayed.

Go Blazers!!

I expect uab to have a great year too, not because I think there will be vast improvement but because the competition has weakened. If we've been losing with players who had offers from no other schools, then why should I believe we can win if we are still recruiting the same type players. Solely because the competitionhas weakened at least for this season. If we dont get to a bowl game this season, I expect to keep getting the same type of players and same results at the end of the season.

There is a rumor that we have lost our associate recruiting coordinator to ODU. Don't know if this is a big loss except for his recruiting responsibilities and what happened last year when asst coaches left(started recruiting UAB targets to their new school). Can anyone confirm this?
