Attendance, at least at JMU, for the weekend before and after thanksgiving is always poor. I would imagine that is the same for most non-bcs schools.
I was referring to the first week, the one Tuesday night somewhere midseason and then the weekend after thanksgiving.
My whole point is, if you're being put on web stream, at least mandate that the games are on Saturdays. No one is any less likely to watch espn3 on a Saturday as they are on a Tuesday. If they're watching Michigan, they're probably not watching emu on Tuesday anyways.

If you're not going to put us on a real tv channel, at least let us have our Saturday games to help with fan attendance.

Welcome.

+1. I don't get it, maybe I'm missing something. There shouldn't be any weekday or weeknight games that aren't on ESPN/ESPN2. What's the point? If we have to play on Black Friday, fine. But why should any other mid-week games end up on E$PN3, and we KNOW that some of them will.

I'd rather have a Tuesday or Wednesday game on ESPNU than an ESPN3 game on Saturday. 03-idea

Let me repeat what I said, and is VERIFIED on the schedule (see link):

http://www.mac-sports.com/tabid/969/Arti...edule.aspx

There is only ONE midweek game on ESPN3 and that is November 12 other than Labor Day weekend Thursday and Black Friday.

The other games are on ESPN2/ESPNU.

We've had games on the Thursday before Labor Day going back to the 90s. Some schools, and the NFL, stay away from the Labor Day weekend.

Some schools have students on campus that Thursday, others do not.

Here is the month of November:

Nov. 2 – Saturday
*Northern Illinois at UMass, Noon ET (ESPN Regional/ESPN Plus/ESPN Game Plan/ESPN3/ WatchESPN)
*Kent State at Akron, 3:30 pm ET
*Eastern Michigan at Toledo, 7:00 pm ET

Nov. 5 – Tuesday
#*Bowling Green at Miami, 8:00 pm ET (ESPN2/ESPNU)
#*Ohio at Buffalo, 8:00 pm ET (ESPN2/ESPNU)

Nov. 6 – Wednesday
*Central Michigan at Ball State, 8:00 pm ET (ESPN2)

Nov. 9 – Saturday
*Western Michigan at Eastern Michigan, 1:00 pm ET

Nov. 12 – Tuesday
#*Buffalo at Toledo, 7:30 pm ET (ESPNU/ESPN3)
#*Ohio at Bowling Green, 7:30 pm ET (ESPNU/ESPN3)

Nov. 13 – Wednesday
#*Ball State at Northern Illinois, 8:00 pm ET (ESPN2/ESPNU)
#*Miami at Kent State, 8:00 pm ET (ESPN2/ESPNU)

Nov. 16 – Saturday
*Central Michigan at Western Michigan, Noon ET (ESPN Regional/ESPN Plus/ESPN Game Plan/ESPN3/ WatchESPN)
*Akron at UMass, 1:00 pm ET

Nov. 19 – Tuesday
#*Buffalo at Miami, 8:00 pm ET (ESPN2/ESPNU)
#*Kent State at Ohio, 8:00 pm ET (ESPN2/ESPNU)

Nov. 20 – Wednesday
*Northern Illinois at Toledo, 8:00 pm ET (ESPN2)

Nov. 23 – Saturday
*Bowling Green at Eastern Michigan, 1:00 pm ET
*UMass at Central Michigan, 1:00 pm ET

Nov. 26 – Tuesday
*Western Michigan at Northern Illinois, 7:00 pm ET (ESPN2)

Nov. 29 – Friday
#*Bowling Green at Buffalo, TBA (ESPNU/ESPN3)
#*Eastern Michigan at Central Michigan, TBA (ESPNU/ESPN3)
#*UMass at Ohio, TBA (ESPNU/ESPN3)
#*Miami at Ball State, TBA (ESPNU/ESPN3)
#*Toledo at Akron, TBA (ESPNU/ESPN3)

RE: ESPN Regional and ESPN3
Okay, let me re-state. I don't agree with having mid-week games on ESPNU or ESPN3.

Aug 29th - 2 on ESPN3, 1 on ESPNU, 1 TBA
Nov 5th - 2 on ESPN2/ESPNU
Nov 12th - 2 on ESPNU/ESPN3
Nov 13th - 2 on ESPN2/ESPNU
Nov 19th - 2 on ESPN2/ESPNU
Nov 29th - 5 on ESPNU/ESPN3

We don't know which channel these games will end up on. We could have 16 games on ESPNU (which not very many people have) or ESPN3, not counting the TBA on Aug 29th. I mean, NIU's game against Wisconsin 2 years ago ended up on ESPN3 for crying out loud - though in retrospect that was probably a good thing.

Contractually we must have a minimum of 6 on ESPN2 or ESPN and at least 5 on ESPNU not counting the MACC on ESPN. After that, ESPN can select any game it wants on any channel including ESPN3 with a 12-day notice.

The ESPN Plus Regional Syndication calla for a minimum 6 Saturday games.
Fox Sports Ohio then picks a minumum 3 more on Saturday.
Then the individual MAC School TV agreements kick in and the rest is on MACDN.

This is all likely to change soon.

RE: ESPN Regional and ESPN3
it is unfair to label the games played on Black Friday as "mid-week games". It's the last week of the season and the game is played on a day that is no different than a saturday game to the average person who work M-F and gets national holidays off. Playing a day early during a holiday weekend is not some big sacrifice. please don't lump these in with the rest.

In terms of true midweek games, this is the first time I can recall an option being ESPN3. 2 MACtion games on the same night are rare to begin with. Bonus points to the person that can find an example of this ever happening before.

As far as I can tell it is a one-off event. Unfortunate, but nothing to get overly upset about.

It isn't as bad as the others but plenty of places give you Thursday off but not Friday. There are at least 5 there on other dates too.

Ugh, are we now going from "Black Friday" to "Thursday-before-Labor-Day-Weekend."?? (how else can one get to 5?).

As I have indicated before, I've attended games on that date (Thursday before Labor Day) before the MAC even had a television contract.

Those are not made-for-television games. They are scheduled based on what works best for the university calendar (e.g., are there students on campus that Thursday who will be gone Saturday?).

For us half the students leave at halftime anyway. I know that happens at other MAC stadiums too.

The Black Friday games suck but even big name schools end up playing on that day so I am not sure I can really count that one as special to us.

If a school wanted to really boost attendance for that game they would really need to convince local stores to do a sale at the stadium admission is your ticket. Guys (and of course women that like football) can watch the game and women get the shopping (and they guys that need/like to shop).

I'll do a quick pivot on 'Black Friday".

There are TWO bye weeks during the 2013 season.

I wish the MAC would use Black Friday as one.

Finish the season the Saturday BEFORE Thanksgiving and give the two MACC teams an extra week to prepare.

But like all sports the urge to extend the season is amazing.

Army/Navy is now MID-December. [Used to be the 1st Saturday in Dec. until 2012 (?).] The first bowls are the following weekend.

Television wants a game from before Labor Day until the 2nd week in January without a single week off.

no thanks. I would much rather have that bye week during the season than being 1 of only 2 schools to benefit from it being at the end.

i have to pay $140/month to get espn3. time warner cable has a virtual lock on the market here and requires you to purchase their high speed internet and cable tv package before unblocking espn3.

If it wasn't so expensive I would like the channel and format.

I have an Apple TV hooked up to my 46" flatscreen. Last week, Apple (finally) made the WatchESPN app available for it. I have to say, the quality of the streams is off the charts. HD quality, with no buffering or stuttering.

Can't wait to use this app to watch college football! I'm especially looking forward to be able to watch replays whenever I want to.

Do you have comcast? Have to admit, watching games on there was nice, though lots of them were blacked out during the game. I could watch the replay later though.

You save the game to the DVR?

BTW, I assume that AppleTV requires HDMI. Correct?

I actually had mine blown out. I had a telephone line connected to the television for DirecTV and apparently there was a lightning strike outside my house which fried both my phone line and my HDMI on my television. (yes, I was dumb - I didn't run the phone line through a surge protector.).

I use a component connection now for input.

If you're on WatchEspn there are all sorts of old games on there, you just click on the "Replay" tab and you get a list of earlier games, in various sports, in order by date.
