Ole Miss @Texas is going to be on the LHN
Ouch.
Hope this is a lesson to other SEC teams. Be careful doing business with Texas.
Sad
What's really bad is this was the Big 12's best home game that weekend and they are stuffing it on a network most of the country can't see and won't be begging their cable providers for.
The other Big 12 home games that weekend:
Iowa @Iowa State
Lamar @Okie State
Tulsa @Oklahoma
Georgia State @West Virginia
UMass @K-State
How is the Ole Miss at Texas game not on ABC or ESPN? How did they get away with putting this game on a network that is supposed to show leftover third tier games not the conferences best non-con match up that weekend?
I bet the Ole Miss fans aren't happy.

Some of those other Big XII games are making the SEC cupcake games look pretty good... ESPN is probably behind this game broadcast, as they are trying to save that network...

RE: Ole Miss @Texas is going to be on the LHN
The only thing left to do is for Ole Miss to whip some tail. I do assume this means a future Texas game at an SEC's opponent stadium will be shown exclusively on the SEC Network, correct?

I'm not surprised at all. There is cost with doing business with the corporate Mouse as well. ESPN will hold the 3rd tier rights of the SEC starting in 2014 so this amounts to an early bone for Bevo and a long shot at getting peek ins for the LHN (where available). It is also why I don't rule out the possibility that the Longhorns may one day wander into the SEC pasture whether we want them or not. Someone is going to have to bail ESPN out of their LHN fiasco and it will likely be either the SEC or ACC.

I don't know. Maybe it's my Big Ten centric view, but I think Iowa @ Iowa State might be a bit bigger for the weekend given the rivalry factor. I guess if Ole Miss and Texas are ranked that would be bigger, but my guess is the Cyhawk would get #1 billing.

I agree, as that looks like a good rivalry game. Funny how it's played so early in the season...

Don't think their future big name OOC aren't watching this.
If they try to pull this on ND or Ohio State then from now on Wyoming and NMSU are gonna be the best OOC games they can schedule.

While true, it's not technically much different than a game appearing on the Big Ten Network, PAC-12 Network, or soon the SEC Network. That can happen with any game at one of their home stadiums provided its not the top pick of the week. My guess ESPN arranges things so local teams can still see their team playing (broadcast it locally to local affiliates same as they used to do a lot more of).

Late season out of conference rivalries are kind of an SEC/ACC thing. In the Big Ten once the conference slate starts, it's pretty much all conference games. Big 12 isn't much different and with 9 conference games, that makes week 3 the last normal week for most out of conference games.

IMO you can probably put the blame for this game being shifted to the LHN on ESPiN, who would like to see more high profile games on one of their networks, increasing the demand for the LHN. Unless ESPiN can get cable companies to pick up the network, they're going to lose a ton of money on it. They've already laid off a bunch of people to try to increase their profit margin, and having the LHN producing more red ink doesn't help ESPiN - or Mickey - at all...

That's what I said too. ESPN will always look out for it's own business interests... you will always help your kid that is in the most trouble. The LHN kid is in trouble. Their new SEC baby will be fine.

IMO ESPiN would make more money on a WVU network. There are West Virginia natives in every state in the USA, since the State of West Virginia has been exporting its people to the rest of the nation for over 100 years now. Texas fans are more centered, since the economy in Texas has always been pretty good. Texas grads usually don't need to leave their state to find work, while WVU grads do, unless they're very lucky...

True. UT just can't seem to relate to the fact that the rest of the country doesn't really care about Austin Texas... I know it is painful.

If killing the network completely isn't an option, maybe ESPN can package the LHN with SECNet. A 'Deep South Sports Package' might be the thing to get people interested in Texas.

IMO what Texas need is some new blood. With Mack and Dodds gone, the Longhorns would probably do much better on the field, which would translate into more people taking notice. It's hard to make any noise on the national scene when your teams are struggling to make the middle of the B12 pack...

Right, Bit. Even just switch all of Baylor's coaches with all of Texas's coaches, and you have a juggernaut again. Medic, I beg to correct that people care about Austin... just not UT in Austin :)

Supposedly ESPN isn't going to bundle them together.
From this article
SEC Network won't be used as vehicle to help Longhorn Network reach more homes
“These are two different networks,” said Connolly, who became head of college network programming in December. “They stand alone. We talk about them alone. When we do big renewals with distributors — I mean the ESPN portfolio — both of these networks will be in that conversation. But we don’t look at it as tying these networks together.”
I guess in time we'll see if that's true.

I cannot seriously believe anyone would think Slive and the SEC would have ever agreed on a bundle with the LHN.
