Nope. UAB will make its decisions based on the best interests of the university, not what makes the big-money boosters feel the most penile heft. The call will be made by VP of finance Richard Margison and athletic director Brian Mackin, subject to approval by President Ray Watts. The Trustees already granted permission to change conferences (during the proposed merger with the MWC). Margison, not being a fool, will not squander the university's funds to make a lateral conference move. It may sound strange, but there are still officials who understand the concept of "public trust."
But hey, whatever makes you feel good when you look down, feel free to believe it.

Yes and if one of their programs ever does emerge, AAC will just pick it off. CUSA is the AAC farm system.
As you can see from the numbers though it's mostly about money. If you are going anywhere you better get your budget up past 30 million and do it with far less student fee's.

Lateral move. Even if you tried to make that case, a rising tide lifts all ships. In 10 years it wont be close and if CUSA has a couple teams emerge the AAC will take them.
The schools in the non BCS with the best resources have joined together now and are far more committed. They will feed off of each others success while CUSA struggles to pay the bills and compete. Financially it's not even close or the potiental each conference has moving forward.

Referring to "public trust" in the same sentence with Memphis Athletics under RC Johnson is an oxyMORON.

There is a big correlation in money spent and success. The budgets are what really matter and TV is just one small part of the budget.

The seasons where Memphis has maintained Top 25 rankings for any sigificant period of time were accomplished by cheating coaches. Fact.

It won't be an issue for UAB...so fret not

Never said that, but of the non big 5 this is certainly the place to be. The teams in this conference have the much better resources and potiental.
The place to be in the Gof5 is the MWC not the AAC.
They have the best football brand outside the power conferences: Boise State. They have state flagship and land grand universities and for the most part they're the only game in town not the forgotten stepchild and the 648th choice in their TV markets which is what the AAC, C-USA, MAC and Sun Belt are.
I really hope UTEP goes back to where we really belong: the MWC. But until that happens, I'll enjoy our stay in C-USA.

Boohoo. Cincy and USF ever being considered "bigtime" was one of the worst charades of the BCS era.

Sagarin ratings do not match your statement.AAC in terms of Sagarin is the best of the rest on paper.

Tulane might be one, but they are committed to athletics, Memphis brings a top 25 BB program. Still better than, FIU, FAU, UTSA, ODU UNCC shall I keep going?
Honest question...by what measure? Comparing conference records for the most visible 3 sports since last realignment Memphis has had 4 seasons at or above .500 and 4 below in Football, 8 above in Basketball and 5 at or above and 3 below in Baseball. Football is not great, but is .500 or better half the time bottom feeding?
Will the Tigers be bottom feeders in the AAC? Could be. I will say when they're bad, they're BAD. Last year's 4-4 record includes 3 wins over remaining CUSA programs. IIRC, the only CUSA program to beat Memphis not moving on to the AAC is Marshall. Not world beating, but not bottom feeding either...IMO.
