We are now, at least in sports.

Technically, I guess we are.

To me, a rival is someone I really care about playing. UNT evokes the exact opposite reaction - more of a "meh".

I'd say ESPN2 is probably a safe bet with Manziel-mania likely to be in full swing.

Me too. I'm pretty disappointed in this as I'd looked forward to going to UNT's new stadium for the game. But with trick-or-treat aged kids, ditching out to go to a football game is a non-starter.

And music schools, albeit I think the focus is vastly different.

Didn't even click in my head that the game was on Halloween. That will definitely limit who can come to the game.

I may get lucky and manage to come back to DFW on Thursday - will have to hightail it to Denton from the airport to catch the second half.

Well, if that doesn't change, for you and for a lot more people, then it's time to put a fork in this program.

We're not in the SWC/XII playing Texas and Baylor and TCU any more. We're not in the SEC playing aTm and LSU and Arkansas any more. We're not even in the nBE playing UH and SMU any more. We're in CUSA playing North Texas and Middle Tennessee.

And if you ever want any legitimate shot at getting back to any of those other places, then you'd better find a way to get excited about North Texas. Because that's who we are now. I understand how you can feel the way you do. The program can't survive if you do.

It says a lot about the program that they would chose two Rice games to move for national television. Anytime Rice can get primetime, national exposure, it's a good thing.

I agree. Other than the fact it inconveniences some of our best fans, I see no downside to this.

I will still watch Rice and go to as many games as I can, regardless of opposition and how I feel about them. The same is not true for the casual fan and quite frankly, a lot of people not heavily invested/plugged into the athletics department.

Getting us excited about UNT isnt going to fix the problem. Fix the leadership black hole and start winning games and then we may get some people other than us interested in Rice.

What channels are we guessing are the CBS Sports and Fox Sports games? CBS College Sports maybe? Fox Sports Houston or something more national than that? I'm happy we're looking at more night games - even the ones in November. I hated those 2:30 and earlier starts, but that's for somewhat selfish reasons.

I'm just happy only one of the TV games is on Comcast! And it's a home game, so I'll be at HRS anyway.

RE: Two Rice Football games moved to Thursday
Actually I'm thinking all 3 Fox Sports games will be on the new Fox Sports 1 channel which launches in mid-August (replacing the current Speed channel). I'm pretty sure that's a channel I currently get on DirecTV (since I currently don't know whether I get the Speed Channel, it's probably a smart decision for them to re-brand it).

It does sound like dish owners will like our new tv schedule (outside of Comcast which no one gets currently for the most part).

I love it when I can record a game that i am attending. When i get home, I replay all the key and/or controversial plays, and listen to the commentary.

Hopefully the only controversy of note we'll have this fall is that we didn't put in our reserves quickly enough in our blowouts (obviously I'm talking about us being on the winning side of these blowouts).

Last time we had that problem was against...North Texas. (77-20)But it sure wasn't the problem last time we played them. (32-31)

I do the same when I get the Dish Network carries the game, but it's not enough of a driver to switch back to Comcast!

I agree. Any game at Rice Stadium that isn't picked up for television should have a 6PM start. I've never understood the logic behind starting a game in the afternoon heat when it isn't necessary. It's bad for ticket sales and it's inconsiderate to the fans. That's not selfish.

Except the afternoon games are fine in November, especially when it is Thanksgiving weekend. I have been to many cold Rice games, but they are not as frequent as hot games.

For over 50 years September and October games were played at night, while November on played during the day. (with just a few exceptions)

I asked about why we didn't play more night games when I was a student the last few years and I was told the neighborhood complained. Was also told that is why we don't have any concerts at HRS like the old days but I would guess the Toyota center and reliant have just as much (if not more) to do with that.
