RE: Two Rice Football games moved to Thursday
I'll take the Thursday games on TV, where exposure will be better than a road game at UAB/UNT on a crowded Saturday with no TV. Ask the players what they think.

I should be able to make the UNT game (no Friday classes, but I will be working Fridays).

When NTSU rebranded, thank God they rejected the popular suggestion to become the Central University of North Texas. Cuz, you know, two directionals in one name is just dumb.

And while I'm being twelve years-old, I'd like to congratulate the baseball team on beating off-week. Great job, fellas. I can't seem to find the right emoticon so I'll, uh, give you a hand. 04-clap2

Texas has two, TCU one, and Tech at least two.

Rice gets national exposure with limited other distractions/games against two opponents (road ones at that) which would unlikely garner any national TV exposure if played on Saturday and Parliament still finds a way to turn it into a negative.

JV? Bush league? Clemson has two Thursday games, Miami, NC, Ga Tech each have at least one. Then there's all the Thursday NFL games. Moving games to accomodate television is a part of the game.

RE: Two Rice Football games moved to Thursday
I don't get the negativity either and the constant repetition of it. We're talking about Rice at UNT and Rice at UAB. What's wrong with playing those games on a Thursday night (the UNT one will be cool coming on Halloween night; if nothing else, it gives UNT students a chance to dress up and try to be on TV)?

The only true negative I see is it considerably shortens the practice schedule for that week but in both cases I think UNT and UAB have tougher games before and afterwards than we do (they are on the road at USM and ECU, respectively, prior to the Rice games while we have home games in each case).

We have a bye week after UNT so we'll have a pretty long 16 day break after that game. I'm not sure if that's a positive or a negative but it certainly gives us a lot of time to get ready for Louisiana Tech.

I'm not negative about it and I don't like the people who are. I'm just being realistic, and I don't think those who are complaining are. That's what we're going to have to do to work our way back up. Anybody, anywhere, anytime.

The big boys who are moving games to those nights are doing it for big bucks. We are simply doing it to get on TV at all.

Wasn't there someone last year who had games on like 6 different days during the season? That's the future. Embrace it.

My thought regarding the students on the team was the additional class time they will miss (essentially two class days for each game instead of one), plus having to attend Friday classes and turn in Friday homeworks after getting home in the middle of the night.

Historically, of all college sports, football has been the one that is least disruptive of class schedules. That is still probably true, but less so than in the past.

Negative? My only complaint is that the switch makes it impossible for me to attend the UNT game.

I think that's a legitimate point to make.

Same.

That and the fact that Rice and UNT aren't, in any way shape and form, rivals.

Agreed. I think the TV exposure is good. For me it's a negative in that it keeps me from seeing all the Owl games in person.

RE: Two Rice Football games moved to Thursday
Playing on Thursday because we have to is a neccesary step on the way to playing on Thursday because we want to.

I went to UNT for the one point win year before last. It will be a tough game, their fans are numerous, loud, and active. They have a new stadium that I will be interested in seeing.

They could become a rival game. What is needed is for both teams to get good and compete for the championship. I see that as a possibility. They have more fans than SMU and more interest, and probably a better team. Yeah SMU, you'd better run.

Sorry for the fans that this inconveniences, but sometimes we all have to take one for the team. For me, personally, this is marginally better or break even. I hope it is cooler for this late October game than the one in 2011 - the heat damn near killed me.

Thanksgiving games don't count as bad in the same way other midweek games do. Quite the opposite, in fact.
