Best BIG expansion fit, as of today
Tell me where this goes wrong... in the current GoR environment, if the BIG could add a "contiguous" area that includes one of the largest cities in North America, has a top 20 global university, and is producing elite talent in basketball and likely could in football since they have a professional team, don't you consider them? This school would own a huge territory of TV eyeballs and has proven to be a rabid sports town. Any guesses?
University of Toronto. Seriously. Think they can't produce athletes? In recent years, they would have had a very legitimate chance to have Kris Joseph, Robert Sacre, Tristan Thompson, Cory Joseph, Myck Kabongo, Kevin Pangos, and, yes, Andrew Wiggins stay home and play for them, not to mention all the recruits from the North that wouldn't mind spending their formative years at one of the best schools in one of the best cities in the world. With the CFL established, I'm sure they have plenty of kids who would play football if they thought they could stay home and compete at the NCAA level. Delany, you have a new school to "investigate".

That's a long way off. What is there, one NCAA school in Canada now? And Simon Fraser is D2.

I kind of doubt any conference wants the hassle of crossing international borders on a regular basis. The travel is difficult enough without adding more complexity to it...

If we're including schools that aren't Division 1 (and it seems we are), I'd go with NYU.
- Large private school
- #1 media market
- AAU member with significant research
University of Chicago (former member) would be #2 for many of the same reasons.
If we're focused on FBS members only, University of Florida would be the top choice.

B1G could go with Missouri and Vanderbilt, as Tennessee and Missouri are contiguous. If it happened Georgia probably has to come along with Florida to get to 18. The XII probably then picks up LSU, A&M, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, and Ole Miss.
Of course that option is off the table if the SEC gets a GOR, which probably will happen with the new cable network.

What about the B1G targeting Missouri and Kentucky?
That would give the B1G control of the border states and make it even stronger in men's basketball.
Kentucky would soften the B1G East up more in football which would get votes from Indiana and Maryland.

I'd probably say raid the Ivy league, they got the markets + the endowments + the academic standing + the rich alums. Oh yeah, the thing called reality strikes that idea down sorta like the concept of unc, uva or duke wanting to be in either the big 10 or sec never really added up. I do really like cornell in the big 10 though, the land grant school of NY.

You are correct. Only one Canadian school presently a member of the NCAA. If Canadian schools were to join the NCAA the leading candidates would be the U of Toronto, McGill U and the U of British Columbia.

Cocaine is a hell of a drug.
Might as well say the SEC is targeting Ohio St, Michigan, Nebraska, and Notre Dame to go to 18.

The SEC and B1G could just raid the Big 12 and only go to 16 each. If the B1G were to go after say OSU and OU and the SEC takes Texas and another...then the Big 12 would just take Cincy, USF, UCF, Houston, SMU, Memphis and UCONN.

Pro sports do it every day.
In case you missed the memo, the NCAA isn't a professional organization, no matter much they try to be...
The investigative branch should have clued you into to that fact...

B1G adds KU and Vanderbilt.
Pac12 adds Texas, OU, OSU, and TTech
SEC takes whatever they want from the rest
ACC tries to keep its football schools from the SEC and adds teams like UConn, Cinncinati, and West Virginia. Maybe Memphis. Who really knows.

Well this theory will certainly keep the realignment board alive...

Note the lack of a time-table. It might take 15 years for this to happen, but I think this is how it will go.
