Firsts at Regions Field

Matrix front and center:
First hot dog: Albert Pride eagerly purchased the first hot dog at Regions Field and settled into his front row seat directly behind the Barons dugout. "Being here brings back memories of when my Dad took me to my first game at Rickwood Field," he said. "I can't put into words how awestruck I am today."

Don't hurt yourself...
Albert Pride from Birmingham chows down on the first hotdog sold in the stadium. Several firsts will take place on opening night at Regions Field the new home of the Birmignham Barons in downtown Birmingham, Alabama Wednesday April 10, 2013

First live music: Two jazz ensembles from UAB entertained the first spectators as they entered both of the front gates. Steve Roberts, UAB Jazz Director, said that the group was excited to play for Opening Day. "They wanted to focus on this game, but we hope to be here to play the Star Spangled Banner on another night," Roberts said. Musicians playing were: Martin Castor on guitar, Micah Braxton on drums, Jacob Edwards on bass, Kameron Dickerson on alto sax, Chris Allison on alto sax and Chris Jones on trumpet.

So did they get everything finished or just a few little things left to finish?

Still lots to be done, but opening should be fine. Not really unusual, may even be typical, to have some details left to be done as the facility opens. I think they'll be done within the month. Not at the game but pass by often on the way home...

Cool that they are doing the bluff idea. Autozone park in Memphis has a bluff and it is a great way to watch the game with young kids.

I don't believe that was by design though.

What, the grassy area? That is entirely by design. They didn't just let people walk into an unfinished construction area.

The grass by design, people sitting there not by design - was my thought.

It's definitely by design as a sitting area. The Redbirds charge around $5.00 a ticket for bluff tickets. In Memphis, it's right next to a playground, so the kids can play and run around in the vicinity while you watch baseball.

Hammons Field, where MSU and the Cards AA affiliate play, is the same way. Like others have said, its a great way to watch with kids.

Beautiful stadium, congrats!

There's something like that along the left field line(gotta watch out for the line drives, though)...

Yup, and there's a playground near there at Regions Field, too.

There are three grass seating berms at Regions Field: the General Admission Berm, the Picnic Berm, and the Family Berm.

There are a lot of different seating options in the park... no view is the same. They have truly made visiting the ballpark an experience in itself.

I'm taking the family back on Sunday for the 3:00 game and we can't decide where to sit. Even the online ticket buying experience is good; you can pick the exact seats you want anywhere in the place and the prices are affordable.
