the ASU, UL package deal
this has been in the works for a long time. If CUSA decides to go to 16 I'm sure these two are the teams that get in. It has nothing to do with the new Belt members and everything to do with rejoining our former members under the CUSA name.

The TV money is not the main attraction. It's about play in a conference with teams you are familiar with. By joining CUSA we will basically be playing in the old Belt with the additipn of a few CUSA teams. The way we hoped realignment would have played out in the first place.

Those that stay will be champions.

They would have to be, no real competition.

Is it worth $3,000,000 + expenses to implement?
$2,000,000 CUSA entrance fee.
$1,000,000 or what ever Sun Belt exit fee, if that's what it is?
Plus cost to change things out.

Will not be an exit fee unless we pulled an MTSU stunt and left early.

Because of the situation we are in, it's become a necessary "investment". That is chump change compared to what we will lose by staying in the Southland Conference... oops I mean the Sun Belt.

If you give a year notice, there is no exit fee in the SBC.

WKU will pay nothing to leave.

Entrance fees can be covered by not taking your piece of the television revenue pie. At 16 teams, CUSA's tv deal will pay out $875k for the next 3 years. After that, if the TV contract value declines, the teams that left for the AAC are responsible for making up the difference for another 2 years.

Anyone joining CUSA would essentially be guaranteed $4.375 million in television dollars.

Travel expenses would also likely decline compared to the SBC, especially for Ark State, which is now on an island. Revenue up, expenses down...seems like a no brainer to move to me if CUSA does actually decide to go to 16.

Dont be so sure of that.

It will be a lot easier for ULL to accept than it will be for ASU. We will have to line up a bunch of donations first and work to get the budget up. The cost of playing in CUSA is far greater, and there will be little increase in terms of TV payouts.

Itll cost us 2.3-2.5 million just to get in CUSA.

I am almost hoping we stay SBC just to see how you react to it. Quit calling this the Southland Conference.

Be honest. You just want us to stay in the SBC period. I have no idea why though.

I didnt say that. I would gladly accept an AAC or MWC invite if it came along. Ive debated looking at the MAC.

You and I both know we get absolutely zero attendance increase, and almost zero in terms of donation increases from accepting a move to CUSA. I want something that will improve our program, not offer us more games that I cant watch on TV, and a national perception that is just as crappy as what we have now.

Liberty, JMU, Ga Southern, App will all have budgets and enrollment larger than Ark St an ULL, so the Sun Belt will be perfectly fine if they leave.
