Frans the same way. He's done hopping. Once he retires, the salary will go up. Basketball just more than doubled the previous coaches salary from 130,000 to 270,000.

State and booster contributions combined we were paying 400K way back in 2006 for the worst coach in school history.

I'm not sure what Monken is making but I'd imagine it is around the 400K range but will be increased when we go FBS.

WKU is paying $850,000 but are we really?

Depends on if BP is at Western longer than 99.9% of people expect

If he coaches 1 year and gone WKU nets a gain of...

$900,000 so WKU actually gets paid almost a million ($1,250,000 buyout + $500,000 we got from USF for Willie T)

If it's 2 years

WKU nets a gain of $50,000

If BP stays 3 years
WKU is in the red $800,000 for the 3 years or $266,000 a year

That's the real cost and it's not even that because where ever BP goes...WKU gets a home and home out of the deal.

So I think we got one helluva bargain...unless the unthinkable happens. WKU tanks under BP but I honestly think the odds are greater of BP staying 4 years than that happening.

Was a great hire and a solid contract.

Todd Stewart did very well.

For Idaho:

Petrino will make a base pay of around $390k a year. With incentives, it's possible he can make $547k:

Incentives:
At least seven regular season wins = $13,461.53
National Coach of the Year = $10,000
BCS Bowl Game appearance = $100,000
Non-BCS Bowl game = $25,000
Team is ranked in the top 25 = $13,461.53
Conference Coach of the Year = $5,000
Academic achievement and behavior of team (categorized using APR) = National score within sport Exceeds 930 = $5,000 Exceeds 950 = $10,000

I wonder if NIU had a 'BCS game appearance' bonus in his contract.

I'm assuming he did, but wondering how much it was worth?

I believe the MAC has the lowest paid head coaches in FBS football. I remember them saying during the MAC championship game both coaches made under $250,000 or something like that

Again. why would anyone in the SBC want to join that conference? Lower average Attendance every year than the SBC, coaches pay less, and you going to freeze your butt off to watch Eastern Michigan and their 2k announced attendance.

Some play some good football regardless of the attendance or budgets.

We likely are the lowest paying at around $300K to $400K but we decided a long time ago to not get in an arms race with coaching salaries. There is a rumor of a gentlemans agreement that no MAC team can pay more than 10% more than the previous highest payed coach. We save money that way, but still remain competitive. We lose all our coaches to the Big Ten so why pay a million dollars for a coach when he'll take the job for $300K? When the Big Ten comes calling and offers $4 million, it doesnt matter if we pay $300k or $1.5 million, he's gone and we cant match $4 million.

There are only 120 some D1A head coaching jobs in the world, if a coach wants a crack at a D1A job, he'll take the MAC opening and we get plenty that apply. The Sun Belt and CUSA and rest of Gof5 can waste their money on coaches and we'll save ours and then beat you anyways. Its common sense. Great and I mean great coaches have come through Miami as the Cradle of Coaches and they weren't attracted by the $$, they were attracted by the opportunity and were grateful for it.

ASU is still cashing in 750K extra for Malzahn hopping early. If Harsin pulled a similar stunt he would owe us more than double that amount. Non negotiable buyout clause.

TXST more than doubled the HC salary when we got Fran but the package also allowed for significant increases (additional monies) for the coaching staff; along with additional coaches to get to "FBS standards" (numbers wise). We weren't going to get FBS caliber coaches for what we were paying our FCS level assistants.

We also just added the "recruiting coordinator" position. This was one of our coaches so now we need to add 1 more to the staff.
