Am surprised you would be thinking that way unless you have not been on this board much.
When you say LU, take it you mean Lamar U. and not Liberty U.

Liberty should not be called LU. They havent been around long enough to deserve that right. I know how a lot of people feel on this board, but if you go back to the freedom of information act emails that someone was able to get. In black and white there are schools mentioned that for whatever reason people dont want to talk about. Partly cause the board has been taken over by liberty posters. JMU is the obvious choice but after that Liberty is not an obvious choice, IMHO. I think there are other schools out there that are in consideration that have not been talked about very much despite having contact with the Sunbelt.

I will say this one final time! Louisiana, ULM, stAte and Texas State will block every SLC schools attempt to get into the Sun Belt.

Why would they stop it. Why wouldn't they want a school in their footprint. ULL and Lamar are traditional rivals. Also, TxSt would want to promote schools within their own school system cause it only helps the school system. IE SHSU and Lamar.

Ok last time, but only because you haven't seen this explanation before.

I can't speak for the other schools, but what sticks in the craw of the Cajuns fans is the the Div 1 split. The southland schools wanted to stay in 1AA. The Cajuns wanted to play 1A football but keep the rest of the sports in the Southland.

Thanks mainly to McNeese but also to our other Louisiana friends in the SLC, they said no. It was all or nothing. So went independent and paid quite a price. So karma has something to do with it. What goes around comes around.

We also aren't fond about how Lamar left the conference either.

And I've said repeatedly, Liberty will not be in this conference with its current configuration. It's going to take another major shift to make them begin to look like a viable alternative.

That is a reasonable response, but from what I have always understood is LU left on good terms. But either way, everyone is entitled to their opinion. And Liberty should not be allowed to call themselves LU.

jmu beat writers continue to tweet that jmu is showing no interest in the sun belt. I don't expect jmu sources to be completely honest with them either though.

remember just about 7 days ago that wku stated they're not going to the cusa? yeah... about that.

Lamar is one of the worst ads the conference could make. I went to SFA 3 years ago when we beat you in football 71-3. You haven't gotten any better (only 2 wins over FCS programs this year). Your basketball program is equally terrible at 3-28 this year. Your football stadium is TINY with no room for expansion at all. You dropped football in the past because of the LACK OF SUPPORT. You don't have great academics. You're located in the crappiest town in Texas. What on earth does Lamar bring other than a pulse?

I absolutely HATE the idea of Liberty in the FBS, but the idea of Lamar there makes me want to kill myself. Please guys, lets not make our conferences laughing stocks.

RE: Sounds like James Madison is joining the Sun Belt.....
Didn't UL stomp Lamar into a pile of dust 40-0 at the half? Yeah no thanks. I know the other sports are important too, but if you suck ass in the most important one, GO AWAY! Football attendance in the Sun Belt is generally 3-5 times more than that of Men's Basketball which is widely considered the second most popular sport in the Sun Belt. At Louisiana, it's almost 8 times what their basketball attendance is!

I would be surprised if average attendance in all other sports added up to be even equal to the average football game at Troy. That's how big football is. If you suck at football, stay home, don't come! Yet we have all these dudes with mediocre FCS ability wanting to be FBS?

That's why I am very excited about ASU, GSU, and JMU (If they join), and not programs like Missouri State (3-8 last year; ranked 42nd in FCS), Liberty (6-5; ranked 57th in FCS), and Lamar (4-8; ranked 89th in FCS). I mean honestly, what do you guys think is going to happen to those teams if they join? Bake them a cake and say "hello neighbor please beat my ass"?

And for the pro-Liberty crowd, they haven't had more than 8 wins since 2008. 8 wins is ok for FCS, but unless you're snagging 10+ somewhat consistently, I'd rather not have you.

EDIT: after further review, JMU isn't the juggernaut I thought they were. We'll just have to see about them. I wanted them until I saw all those 6 and 7 win seasons. I remember watching them in the playoffs a few years ago and beating a ranked VT or WVU in maybe a different year, I don't know.

Yeahhhh...about that. 01-wingedeagle

I've seen other reports floating around saying similar things, but seems VERY unlikely this is the guy to break the news. Still believe JMU is too smart to turn down a FBS invite. I know they had, and still have, different aspirations for FBS football but you have to get your foot in the door because it's clear that the nBE and C-USA are not plucking schools from the FCS-level.

Didn't CUSA pluck Old Dominion recently?

Yep, ODU was plucked!

JMU and LU are going to bring about the same thing athletically to the field in the major sports. Both MBB teams made the Tourney, and their FB teams are pretty evenly matched. As for other sports LU probably gets the nod.

Are we in the way back machine? Historically JMU is much better than LU. JMU won there National Title 13 years ago. Are the same team now? nope? The last 5? They actually played head to head, and it was a 3 point game the last time they played. Their records are similar over the last couple of years.
So it's not crazy to say that they are pretty evenly matched over the last couple of years.

JMU all time record vs. Liberty: 12-5, including 6 consecutive wins. Liberty last beat JMU in 1992
JMU in the recent 4 game series:
2009 - 24-10 W
2010 - 10-3 W
2011 - 27-24 W
2014 - TBD

You do realize Lamar went to the NCAA tournament last year and it was an all freshman squad this year. And we are a historic basketball school with a 10K arena that has been known to sell out in years past. We also have Pat Knight as our coach. And whether you like it or not we are on your list of potential adds cause we already have facilities in place for an FBS jump and are in the SBC footprint. But I will not argue that we are not good at football as of yet. We just brought our program back 4 years ago and probably did not hire the right coach for the job. But your flame is unwarranted and not completely fair. I am not going to be a liberty poster and spend a whole bunch of time pimping my school but there are other schools on the list besides JMU (who might not accept). So why not have a little conversation about other potential schools that could be added without flaming all over them.

Competitive doesn't mean win. I actually thought LU had NEVER beaten you, so there is that. But looking at those scores....they seem pretty close and competitive. If JMU had blown out LU in those match ups then the point would be invalid.

Not to mention Lamar went 3-28 in men's basketball this year 04-jawdrop

Not impressed with a 10k basketball facility that has sold out because we have the same thing. Lamar did well last year, but look at the years before that. Lamar brings nothing to the table. A terrible add and bad for the whole FBS.
