Because the women either win or contend for a championship every season. They have earned that right. The men's program has idled in mediocrity for years. Why throw good money after bad? All the men needed to do was qualify for the NIT like the ladies and they could go also. That's your reason. Very simple. Good goes. Lousy stays home!

If the NIT had the same rules as the WNIT, the men would have qualified several times during Steve's tenure. The WNIT is a "pay to play" tournament that takes more teams (64) than the CBI and CIT(48) combined. The fact that it incorporates the letters "NIT" doesn't make it any more legit than the CBI or CIT.

I agree with you that there certainly seems to be something of a double standard going on here. But who can figure or understand the "logic" that is used by the supreme and all powerfull commander of UALR athletics?

The WNIT has prestige, because of the history of the NIT in basketball. Whether it's better or not is irrelevent. And it's more difficult to earn an automatic berth. Is it now run by the NCAA like the NIT is? You can't blame Chris. He has set a bar for the men. You qualify for the NCAA or NIT or you stay home. Whether it's fair or not I'll leave up to each of you to decide for yourself. For me, I would have had no objection to the men playing in one of the other tournaments. But it didn't happen, so I'm looking forward to signing day and next season.

The WNIT has absolutely nothing to do with the NIT. They could have just as easily named it the WNCAA. It has nothing to do with the NCAA either. The current NIT is run by the NCAA and operates by the same rules. If it operated like the WNIT the hogs would have been in and probably would have had 3 home games.

So who runs the WNIT? Are they a completely separate organization?

The Men's NIT was actually purchased by the NCAA a few years ago to resolve a lawsuit that had been filed by the Men's NIT against the NCAA. As far as I know, the WNIT had no relationship to the old Men's NIT, or the NCAA owned NIT. They are a private for profit organization just like the organizers of the CBI and the CIT. So other than copying the initials, there is no "prestige" that you refer to that goes with the WNIT.
