Just Back From Cleveland/My Thoughts
1) As much as I can't stand CMU, they are clearly the best team in the league. They won 3 straight in the tourney, without their starting point guard and at times with star players in foul trouble.

2) I don't know how Akron's player was player of the year over Naama or Bradford. She can shoot when she is open, but doesn't move well with the ball and did not seem that great to me.

3) I can see why Akron led the league in the scoring, but not in wins. Their defense, especially in the paint was slow/at times awful.

4) While Toledo may deserve to go to the NCAA in my heart, I'm not so sure in my head. I think we are just not as tall and athletic as we need to be at the forward/center positions.

5) Friday's game came down to missed missed shots and not being able to take advantage of Bradford sitting. I felt we would win if Toledo could go up by 4-6 pts during the final 12-8 minutes.

6) If Toledo gets a bid to the WNIT, should they accept? I'll go, but it just doesn't seem that appealing.

I don't get why people keep asking, "SHOULD we accept a WNIT bid?" Why the f*** would we NOT accept one?

RE: Just Back From Cleveland/My Thoughts
I feel as a fanbase, we are just disappointed that we thought we had the makings of a very special season that got derailed much too soon. The wins this year coupled with the successful NIT runs the last two years has definitely made us somewhat of "Ohio State like" in the sense that we almost assumed we'd win the tourney and make it to the big dance.

Even IF we don't make the dance, the ladies still had quite a successful season, can raise a MAC Championship Banner, and we still have plenty of games to get some sort of a crown for these senior ladies.

LETS GO ROCKETS!

NIT bid at Savage center will bring in revenue and energize the fan base.
You will need to beat a top seed to advance to round two of the NCAA.

I agree. I wanted them to get to the NCAAs for the girls' purposes since they are the ones that earn it but personally, I'd rather see them make some serious noise in the NIT like they did a few years ago than a very shallow run in the NCAA tournament.

RE: Just Back From Cleveland/My Thoughts
Winning the NIT was incredibly exciting, but we need to remember that it's a consolation tournament. Everybody fights hard in the MAC tournament to get to the big dance. Don't get me wrong, if we go to the NIT bid I'll be there cheering like crazy and having a great time, but I would never hope for that. Besides, who says we necessarily lose a first-round game in the NCAA. With the kind of defense we play, we could surprise somebody (if we get the chance, which I think we will).

RE: Just Back From Cleveland/My Thoughts
I think it depends on the mindset of the team...particularly our 5 seniors. I want to see post-season play, so if we aren't in the NCAA field then let's start another run in the WNIT. That's me...but I'm not one of the players or coaches...if their hearts really aren't in it if we get disappointing news on Monday night (an who could blame them), then it could actually hurt to not play up to their capabilities and lose a 1st round WNIT game. I'm expecting, though, that one way or another, we will be playing some more basketball this season.

BTW, if Charlotte makes the NCAA field and UT doesn't, then that's just one more nail in the MAC coffin.

RE: Just Back From Cleveland/My Thoughts
As I recall the last time we made the run in the NIT, a big conversation was whether it was costing the program money, breaking even or making money. Did we have a conclusion to that? Even though it gives next year's team some more time to practice, if it's costing, there's certainly diminishing returns if the fans are not interested.

Right now I can imagine the fan mentality is not there because of hopes of an NCAA bid. There's a bitter taste perhaps? Of course, message board doesn't reflect the attitude of the entire fan base.

If we are in the WNIT, then I thinkUT bids high enough for a home game first round, and then maybe let this team win a game on the road the next round--keeping in mind that this tournament should at least in part be used to better prepare returning players, and not just as a "reward" for us fans. Then, assuming we win again and are in a 3rd round, if the game is a Friday/Saturday/Sunday, by all means, try to host--that's when the attendance can be large enough to help offset the bid cost. In any case, if we make it all the way to the Semis &/or finals, you try to host no matter that day or time.

After several games the Blade (Silka) put out an article about how much money the University was going to loose on the WNIT (typical Blade hit-job) but he only considered revenue from 2 of the 4 games scheduled at that point but considered the costs of all 4 games.

Here was my take on his article at the time (post #13 in the tread):
http://csnbbs.com/showthread.php?tid=490358&page=2

In the end University actually made money on the tournament and to his credit Mr. Silka did a follow up article that reported the final outcome.

I think the fans would come in droves this time (better that the start of the 2011 WNIT run) because any given game could be the last for five seniors.

My guess is that WNIT crowds would be just OK. As far as making money, since you have to pay to host the WNIT, not sure that much would be made.

They should go, because of the different schools that would have to come to Toledo. It was great to see schools, like Delaware Auburn, Ala and USC. Schools that wouldn't come to Toledo to play us. This is a no brainer. If we go to the NCAA, we have no chance.

Tricia isn't a snob. We are accepting a WNIT bid. And winning it would only more prove we should have been in. Can you imagine 35-3!!!
