Could this increase attendance?
Okay Huskie fans, here's fuel to a debate we've had once before:

Texas has more than a few sellouts and they're still looking for ways to increase revenue, so they're considering selling beer at football, basketball (they didn't specificy but under Title IX I'd assume they mean men's and women's), plus baseball games.
Hard not to laugh at Texas AD (DeLoss Dodds) comment: "If we did do it, people would say that they're just doing it for the money. It's not a money issue. It's a do-the-right-thing issue."

Louisville is going to sell $1 beers at its spring game. West Virginia claims selling beer "actually reduced the amount of excessive student drinking incidents."

Here's the link: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-s...ncaaf.html

Among the comments beneath the article was a guy asking if Colorado, Colorado State, Washington and Washington State would allow weed to be sold at their games and noted those schools would need to keep the concessions open even after the games.

I do not think it will increase attendance. It' not like people will say "Let's go see NIU play EMU. They sell beer there." It will, however, increase revenue.

Would not be a fan of beer sales at all. There are already morons at these games and thats an hour or two divorced from drinking.

Students and friends of students would be much more likely to attend. 21-25 year olds in the suburbs would be more likely to attend. Some of the people who tailgate and then go home or to the bars might actually go into the game. It would help.

RE: Could this increase attendance?
I and the people that came to the games with me, drank many beers in the 6th man grille. Next year, I would like to see it open to anyone or at least those with season tickets to ftball or bball. I also believe they need to have more than one cashier. Booze at the games will get a few more people to leave a bar or tailgating and go into the game.

I actually think selling beer would be a great idea...especially since our stadium is perfectly divided to where they can only sell it on the West Stands, since the East stands are mostly students. Selling on the West Side makes sense to me.

It wasn't happening with Peters and Compher here. Next year they wont be so it could be a possibility.

I would rather that we just keep our beer sales to our future skybox and club seats.

I think you have to give people as many reasons to attend as possible, even though I hate hanging out with a bunch of drunks personally.

While it may be debatable if selling beer would increase attendance, I think it would keep more of the 40-50% of the fans who seem to leave our games at halftime now.

I agree
Only if they fix the lines for the bathrooms at halftime. What makes HS so cool, you can run out to your car at halftime, down a cold one and walk back in.

Agree, but I know plenty of people who opt to go to Fatty's to watch the game just so they can drink. Most of them aren't out of control drunks but people who enjoy drinking while watching the game.

I would think a better solution would lie in improved security to combat any issues stemming from beer sales.

beer sales are done all over the country at all sorts of sporting events. why couldn't NIU execute it, unless they are simply that inept.

Extra security costs money.

It's a shame about people who won't go to a game because they have to drink to enjoy it. Sounds like alcoholic issues to me, expecially when you can drink yourself into a stupor before the game and at halftime.

Believe it or not, there are a large amount of people that enjoy a beer or two an are not alcoholic's. Selling on the West side of the stadium would bring in revenue, therefore check off the cost of extra security. Plus, it would make it no different than any professional venue as far as drinking goes. Since there is no alcohol in the stadium, folks probably slam several down before heading in, which is not good. Sell it in the stadium and you avoid the people leaving at half time to gulp down several...hence this would perhaps be more responsible.
