RE: CMU at NIU
He will not be fired. Dont know whats going to happen with Nader, but if a kid doesnt want to be here then we dont need him. Davis did well in Naders absence. If, Bowie could shoot free-throws, he could be star.

RE: CMU at NIU
we need finding new rock bottoms, it's quite impressive.
Montgomery is nowhere close to in trouble, if we're in the same place next year, you can start to discuss, but I still don't think it'd even happen then.
That being said, if Nader really is gone, I will start being concerned, not that Montomery wasn't the right guy, but that this ship can't be put on the right track.

There are no stars on this team now or next year. Too many kids don't want to be here every year.

RE: CMU at NIU
I have stayed completely out of this discussion concernig MM's coaching and recruiting. It was one thing to see Patton"s recruits leave, it is quite another to watch MM's own recruits jump ship. I have noted a couple of people defending our coach, but even the most optimistic fan must have some doubts now.

Saw JC in passing towards end of the game last night. He looked tired and troubled.
It was a full day I'm sure, and I know he puts in a ton of hours but I would imagine stuff like this (Nader) is what really weighs most heavy on him.

RE: CMU at NIU
Well, another weekend, another two losses - both lopsided losses to CMU. The women lost today by 21, yet they led for almost 3/4 of the game.
The home basketball season is over. Yippee!!

sucked that the woman lost to CMU.
Regarding the men, well NIU MBB has been in the tank for maybe 15 years.
Hard to believe we were once a BB school.

Looks like the only way to be sure of improvement is to nuke this program from orbit.

women's program even a bigger disaster. I thought Bennett was a terrific choice, now I hope she walks away. I think they are down to 8 schlorship players, there is internal problems and this in her 3rd year. She would do us a favor if she called it quits.

Nope. If MM gets 4 years, so should she.

unfortunately, she was extened and it is too costly to fire her. Her program has a lot of internal problems that one should not have in her 3rd yr. She only has 8 players. It in shambles.

The men's program should be a money program. It is a money sewer. Internal conflicts abound. Attitudes are bad. Players are walking out. Players are regressing. Now THAT is a program in shambles. Can it be fixed? Sure, but we need all new players. Can we get the good players we need to come and play for NIU? That would almost be a miracle. If MM could pull that off, he'd be anointed a saint. So far, no good.
Neither coach will walk out, so we are stuck with what we have. Kathi said she is looking forward to the players coming in next season, so let's see. At any rate, neither men's nor women's basketball will be a fun or exciting thing to watch next year.
I and a group I have gotten friendly with attend both men's and women's games. The comments are the same after each game, as we just shake our heads. Yesterday, everyone said that they were glad the seasons are over. It was the only happiness I have seen this season.
Yesterday, the women played pretty well - until about the 10 minute mark of the second half. Then, CMU blew right by us and won 82-61. Even when we led most of the game, I knew we would lose. It was just a matter of how and when. Same feeling as I get for the men's games. Next year will be no different.

Dogfan, you are wrong about the mens program. Most of the players are very coachable. Mens bball is not a money maker. The ftball program doesn't even make money. If, we didn't take student funds, we couldn't even have athletics at NIU. If, Monty is losing with juniors and seniors then he is in trouble, not with freshman and sophs. They may not win a lot next year, but the year after they will be expected to win.

If the players are very coachable, the coaches did an awfully poor job!

RE: CMU at NIU
Our guys get open shots left and right, but they miss them. Our guys for the most part try and defend and rebound. Several games just like Saturday, NIU made more shots than CMU, but made less 3's and free-throws. We need more talent. The fact that we stink does not mean the coaches are no good. I will trust Izzo, Compher, Peters and several Bigten head coaches when they say Monty will be a great head coach. Our team for the most part has improved a lot in the turnover dept, except Nader, so I am sure they can improve in other places. Take Bowie and Davis out of our free-throw shooting and we are ok as a team. The bottom line is we must start winning some games.
