There's nothing lateral about it. They've got a better TV deal, better bowl tie-ins, our traditional rivals, and a football tradition that extends further back than 2000. I'm glad we haven't prostituted ourselves like some schools, but make no mistake : this would not be a lateral move.

Let's look at this from another perspective....

CUSA 3.0 will be stronger in basketball tomorrow than today...top to bottom......would you agree? I know we lose MEM, but...top to bottom...especially top 5-6-7...looks pretty good moving forward

The nBE not only loses its name/brand, but loses the core basketball tier that earned it the deserved respect....you should be okay with that....

Big East football has always generated little respect...you should be okay with that too...no different than CUSA football...now it is a combination of CUSA 1.0 and 2.0....let's call it par based on lack of respect

If we or they want, we can still schedule former members as OOC games, which appears to be ideal for us...is that fair?

Almost nobody cares about baseball. ESPN and CBS don't even link to college baseball. Fair also?

Just as CUSA has helped teams evolve (UL and Cincy), why should we expect less from the new invitees?

Upper tier schools are forming their Augusta country club.

To sum it all up, why should we springboard (assuming and invite) to a conference that offers the above.?

I like our spot...regardless if it was by default or choice.

We have always been lower tier viewed....nothing changes that.

Quote:I could defintely see schools like Ohio, Marshall, ODU, USM, UAB and others in the running, if they want to be.

A conference move by UAB has to be approved by the VP of finance, Richard Margison, a cold-blooded individual who fully understands the term "due diligence." UAB would move to join its peer research institutions in the ACC, but that unlikely event's the only one I see getting Margison's stamp on it.

Our name hasn't been mentioned in public circles and I'm totally fine with. I would not support a move to that conference if an invite was offered. No way.

Good. I have no desire to play in a league anymore that doesn't have fan support. Tired of it. I watch the Houston game and there were lucky to be 500 people there. Tulane, SMU, Temple....its all the same. No support. I want to play schools that have a fan base and support the programs. I think the current CUSA setup has the ability to be the best G5 conference in the country in due time. I like the regional feel of this conference with great destination areas. Totally on board with CUSA. Nobody in their right mind would pay the exit fees and entry fees to play in that dumpster fire of the "conference to be named".

The makeup of the new CUSA is a better fit for Marshall anyway.

You guys can't even put 25k in the stands for football, you have a picture of an empty basketball arena in your signature, you have no market, you're in the backwoods of West Virginia, your endowment is embarrasingly small, you accept almost everybody who applies, you haven't been relevant since Leftwich went to the NFL...so I don't think you can talk smack about lack of support or being a low quality school. You aren't meant to be a P5 school and there is nothing wrong with that. You guys have accepted your place in life and the fact that you've hit your ceiling.

I agree and I think the same can be said for ECU as well although some ECU fans may not admit it. For years Marshall and ECU were the ouliers in the conference. Now that ODU, Charlotte and MTSU are on board it totally changes the dynamics of the conference in my view. I enjoyed playing ECU and UCF but I wont lose any sleep over not playing Tulane, SMU, Houston anymore. I dont like watching Marshall play on TV in empty arenas and stadiums. It just makes the conference as a whole look bad. It will likely take several years for the new schools to adjust a little but in the long run I really like the makeup of this conference better than the "conference to be named".

If the challeng for the nBE is to please Navy, you forgot one of the most obvious solutions for the nBE -- Add ODU. ODU is home to the world's largest navy base. Navy is everywhere in Norfolk, the home of ODU's campus. Non navy and non ODU people are already talking about the ODU Navy matchup. That matchup is just as desirable and anticipated as ODU-vpi or ODU-UVA. It is more desirable than ODU-ECU.

In every news article I've read the last few weeks, it either lists Tulsa as team #12 or Tulsa/UMASS as team #12. It could be that Temple &/or UCONN want another northeastern school (UMASS).

If UCONN leaves then add Army as their replacement. If Cin. leaves then add S. Miss or Air Force. If it's Air Force that would create a spot for UTEP in the MWC which is the best choice for them.

There's nothing lateral about it. They've got a better TV deal, better bowl tie-ins, our traditional rivals, and a football tradition that extends further back than 2000. I'm glad we haven't prostituted ourselves like some schools, but make no mistake : this would not be a lateral move.

Of course it's not a lateral move. Good luck however, trying to convince your USM brethren.

How about we look at some facts Cougar Kitty? Since we have only been in the league since 2005, lets just go back and see who has had the better fan support over the years. Shall we?

Marshall Football attendance since 2005.....25,069

Houston Football attendance since 2005.....24,019

Marshall Basketball attendance since 2005 ....4,951

Houston Basketball attendance since 2005.....3,950

And yet you say "we" cant put 25K in the stands....

Any questions?

BS if you think its not a lateral move. Keep telling yourself that. You are out of your mind if you don't think it is. The bowl situation for you guys is yet to be determined by starting a new conference with a new name and you cant tell me that the exit fees AND entry fees is a good investment for a few extra hundred grand a year. Get real for once.

You guys are just butt hurt over the fact that you got duped and lied to. That's the bottom line. Anybody with half a brain would not have jumped to that conference with that little bit of TV money increase. You know that and I know that. Just admit it. I've seen others admit it like Memphis fans etc. Hell, even the Temple people are threatening to pull out if they don't get some teams on the Northeast. You will be playing with Buffalo and UMass before long.

I just love a Houston fan slinging attendance smack at Marshall. The sig pic that you referenced is a packed arena, but I can see how you wouldn't recognize what that looks like. Through the games played yesterday Marshall is averaging 5602 and Houston is averaging 3649. Nearly 2000 more for Marshall in a season that we are really bad. Those 500 fans there yesterday looked awesome on TV.

In football Marshall averaged 24,896 to Houston's 27,247. Houston drew 2351 more per game. Huntington's population is 49,138 compared to Houston's 2,100,000. With more than four times the population, Houston drew 2400 more than Marshall.

Houston hasn't been relative in basketball in years. They blew their chance to be relative in football a couple of years ago when USM beat them down in the championship game in Keenum's 12th year in the league. Houston fans need to accept the fact that they are in the same boat with the rest of us. No one in Houston cares about the Cougars and neither does anyone else in the country.
