Let the dominoes start falling...
The 7 catholic schools are beginning a new league next year, but will retain the Big East name. Xavier and Butler will be the 8th and 9th team, while Creighton is supposedly the 10th. Later on in the artical it says Dayton and Saint Louis could be the 11th and 12th teams by 2014. Let's see where this will lead us! Exciting.

The Big East was fast becoming a joke. This is good news for basketball fans as the Big East can now somewhat return to its great basketball tradition.

And the teams that they left can slowly start falling back to the conferences that they left to join the Big East before it became a joke. Once Cincinnati leaves, its over for them.

RE: Let the dominoes start falling...
Agree 100%. What really is the benefit for schools like Houston, SMU, UCF, etc... to join the new Big East (whatever it will be called) vs the current CUSA? TCU, Boise and SDSU had all changed their minds after commiting. I think we'll see others do the same thing. Cincinnati and UCONN have made no bones about the fact that they both will leave as soon as the call comes in. If the rumors are true that UVA, UNC and/or Ga Tech are headed to the Big Ten then Cincy and UCONN will be in the ACC as soon as that happens.

RE: Let the dominoes start falling...
The UVa rumor will be interesting. The Virginia Legislature pushed Virginia Tech into the ACC because that was UVa's home. Not sure the legislature will favor that little break-up. While the politicos only provide about 5-10% of UVa's funding, they do control other aspects of their governance (Board of Visitors, etc.).

I really just dont see them leaving the ACC. I see the ACC as a better conference or at least as good as the Big Ten. When you factor in the rivals, travel, etc., i dont see it happening. I dont know the comparison of the TV contracts, but it would have to be a substantial difference.

The B1G TV contract is significantly bigger than the ACC. From a revenue standpoint there is the B1G, SEC, and Pac12 and then everyone else. That's the only reason Maryland left, the extra money. They're struggling financially and made the move to shore up finances. It's something like $10million a year more.

Tis article came out this morning. The new Catholic 7 league will really shake things up that reach to the mid major level because they're going after basketball schools. I can definitely see Davidson going to the A10 if they lose Butler, Dayton, and Xavier. If they leave and App and Ga Southern move to the FBS, I don't know that the SoCon is a desirable league at all compared to the OVC.

Living in the Triangle I just can't imagine UNC wanting to split from NC State, Duke and Wake Forest for the Big Ten.

I can't imagine UNC OR UVA leaving, but the rumors just won't go away.

It's a shame we're not being considered to go to any of these bigger conferences. Hell who knows, if we had taken advantage of our "glory years" in the right way, we might be getting an invite to the new Big East or Atlantic 10. Anyhow, I'm just ready for all the news to break and really hope we get in the best conference we can.

Who knows how all this will shake out. The A-10 and CAA all will be changing. Who knows we might help form a new A-10.

RE: Let the dominoes start falling...
Saw recently where the Sun Belt member schools had athletic budgets ranging from $11 million to $20 million a year. If the athletic fee increase is approved by the TBR, the annual ETSU athletic budget could be approaching $16 million. So, several of the Sun Belt schools are able to fund 85 football scholarships on about the same budget as ETSU projects. With the Big 10, or whatever it's called, recently declaring that none of its members will be schuduling FCS schools in the future, and if other BCS conferences follow suit, FCS football is in for some possible financial hurting. Therefore, will ETSU and like institutions be forced to pursue FBS football down the road so as to continue scheduling those important "money games"? Just saying.

As Ive said, the ACC goes as the triangle goes. If the triangle sticks together so does the ACC. If the triangle falls apart then the ACC will be toast. I could see everyone from the ACC moving somewhere but the new members from the BE, that being Louisville. Pitt and Syacuse.

Might be time to hire that full time AD then.
