Ya'll may have just paid the deposit on the Nippert expansion for the push out of this trailer park. Preesh!

Speaking of trailer-like facilities, are ya'll ever going to replace Fifth-Third?
A few years out after the Nippert expansion wraps up.

good. yall deserve a better arena than that place.
UCONN is still behind Cnnci for the ACC

ummm, ok. That has nothing to do with what I was talking about.

RE: Houston & SMU Should Not join the what ever league!!!!!
Everyone needs to quit the whining.

About 10 years ago, the State of Connecticut upgraded UConn FB and built a stadium because of an offer to join the Big East. Then, before it even happened, three schools (Miami, VT, and BC) left the conference. BC was going to be our primary rival, just 90 miles away. We eventually rebuilt the Big East into a decent conference, but then we were abandoned by Syracuse, Pitt, Louisville, and Rutgers.

No school has done more for the Big East and has had as much athletic success in the Big East than UConn. Even so, we were still passed over in realignment by the seven other schools. Because of that, we're not getting annual conference payouts of $17 million or $40 million like the inferior schools that left the Big East. Instead, we're stuck at $2 million per year in what is essentially C-USA. So if the disgruntled fans from Memphis, ECU, UCF, Houston, etc. are looking for sympathy now, you won't get any from me.

I suggest that the complainers just shut up and do their best to support this new conference work.

Sorry. I was just responding to an idiotic post by pearland1. As both a UConn and an SMU fan, I don't want SMU or Houston to leave this conference. I don't think it would be a smart move for either school.

Maybe SMU doesnt have higher sights but this is definitely temporary for Houston (be it 2 years or 10). Might as well go ask the MWC to let us in for free rather than get bent over the table by UC, UConn, USF and ESPN. Waive the entry fee, pay our exits and there's no question we're in. But at 8.5 million it's gonna take a long time to even break even, and for what, ESPN3 and a likely god awful name? Make a case for going along with that. At least the MWC can still say its the Boise State conference.

Houston like Memphis went 4-4 in football last year. In a huge market could only avg 27k in attendance. Your football is not attractive. Your bball rpi is 200+, your bball is not attractive. You are not an AAU school. What do you offer? I mean why do you guys somehow think you'd be attractive to another conference? or do you mean stepping down to the MWC?

I'm not trying to beat up on my conference brothers, but seriously guys, wake up. this is your best option, you're going nowhere.

And the year before we were 12-1, played every game in front of a sold out house, and were ranked as high #6 in the nation. We arent quite the nasty gutter trash you portray.

RE: Houston & SMU Should Not join the what ever league!!!!!
I don’t see why everyone is totally surprised. The C7 said months ago they wanted to form their own bball league and would have the majority votes to do it. They also said they wanted to keep the BE name if the conference dissolved.

But most importantly is they continued to negotiate a TV deal which told me they were splitting this summer. So now they are making what we knew (or should have known) months ago official.

I say let’s chill and see what the outcome of the meeting(s) is/are.

Here's what UHCougar posted after a phone call. Its not good news (lol...so what else is new?).

Just got off the telephone. Officially, an EPIC FAIL!

Aresco has achieved nothing in his tenure. Nothing! As a good friend of mine likes to say, Aresco has proven he is "all hat, no cattle." In the 30 years I have been in and around academia/university athletics, never, ever have I seen someone so completely and utterly out-maneuvered at every single turn.

I have absolutely no doubt ESPiN's hand is in this deal up to its elbow.

* FOX is overpaying the C7 for their basketball rights to offset the cost of buying the Big East name;
* ESPN, in turn, will agree to sublicense C7 basketball to offset some of FOX's costs;
* ESPN, in turn, will then turn around and sublicense early-season (insert new conference name here) home games against non-conference SEC, BIG, and ACC opponents to FOX-1, CBS Sports, etc. to offset its actual purchase of the media rights for the (insert new name here) football schools, and ESPN essentially pays nothing for the (insert new name here) media rights;
* FOX and others buy only the games they want from the (insert name here) football, with no loyalty to the (insert new conference name here) conference;
* ESPN and FOX cut NBC out as a significant competitor in college football/basketball for at least another 5-10 years; and
* ESPN will drop the media rights for the (insert new name conference here) in 7 years, or offer something in line with the MAC, Sunbelt, etc. on the pretext that the conference just doesn't have any national brand value.

I don't speak for the University of Houston, but I'm confident when I say, everyone on Cullen Blvd. is disgusted and embarrassed today. I guarantee you, regardless of what you hear Friday, this is not UH's wish. I, personally, am ashamed today to be one of the biggest, die-hard (insert new name here) boosters on this board. I'm going to be sick.

The funny thing is, I was ridiculed when I said I thought we could make more selling our games ala carte. Turns out, it was true. Apparantly ESPN will get most of the inventory for free just off what they make selling off the OOC games (thats most of football AND ALL of basketball for free). If this is correct, then we are idiots if we sign this deal.

Exactly, so why don't you guys take that #6 ranked team to an AQ BCS bowl this year? None of us have power five options and this is still a better option than the MWC. I've enjoyed having Houston as a conference mate and also enjoyed your contributions as a poster. Guess even my patience are starting to run thin, maybe I need to step away from the board for a day or two until some folks settle down. but the bitching and infighting is getting annoying.

I think that would be a good idea for us all.

Unfortunately, this is our passion. The people that post their support for the Big East are die hard as they come. To me, these kinds of fans are salt of the Earth because they could have taken the easy route and cheered for a perennial Top 10-25 team (like most other joes).

That level of support is also behind the extreme disappointment. I know... because I've felt it.

But like all of you, and the Terminator, I will be back.
