The RPI projections have gotten shockingly better for Memphis…
As of the update today from rpiforecast.com, if the Tigers were to end the season with 4 losses their RPI would be 11. This is a full 4.5 spots better than yesterday's projection of 15.6. This is a HUGE development in the favor of the Tigers.

Here are the current rpi projections for Memphis:

Final Record / Expected RPI
27-4 / 11.1
26-5 / 13.9
25-6 / 19.9

If these projections are indeed accurate, the Tiger's seeding could be quite a bit better than than what most of us think. I know rpiforecast.com was very accurate last year in projecting the Tiger's RPI.

UT and Minnesota helped A LOT last night. Our loss wasn't horrible when it comes to RPI purposes. The RPI penalizes very little for a road loss.

I almost think they made a mistake. As much as I love to see the projections like this, I just don't see how we would be 11th in the RPI if we win our next 3 games. Maybe they are projecting some of the team in front of us to lose some game before the regular season ends.

Based on last year alone, RPI means precious little to the Selective, Respecter of Conferences and Teams Committee. Win out to a #10+ seed.

hope i'm wrong, but I tend to agree. I wouldn't mind a 10 seed.

a 10 seed would be better than an 8 or 9

Individual RPI for a team does not mean nearly as much as quality wins for that team. I fully expect that the Tigers will receive 2 full seed lines worse of a seed than we expect going into Selection Sunday. If we are all expecting an 8, it will probably be a 10.

Win out and we will receive nothing worse than an 8 seed. Probably a 6 or 7.

RPI does not take into account home and road losses/wins.

UT may give us another top 50 win as well.

I wish they would just do away with the rpi it is a pointless thing now and become more and more pointless each year. The rpi used to determine seeding and whether or not you got in.

You have to admit, if these projections are accurate, and we had an 11 or 12 RPI on Selection Sunday it would still be a shocker even to Memphis fans to receive anything worse than a 7 or 8. I mean c'mon. I have never seen a seeding that would be more off than that.

Hope you're right to the #6 or #7 side. Haven't been paranoid lately, but I think the Selection Committee will once again be underwhelmed with us; nonetheless, I'm open to anything from paranoia to ecstasy.

Yup. Sucks to be us.

I'd almost rather be an 11 than an 8 at this point.

It would really help if UT could some how sneak in and get an at large bid.

If Southern Miss wins all but the title game against us, they are projected to finish at 22. If UT loses only 2 more games, they are projected to be top 50. If both of those scenarios happen, I wonder what our seed will be then. Top 10 RPI, 3-0 over Top 25 RPI, 4-3 over Top 50 RPI, zero bad losses. I assume an 8 again.
