Its only a matter of time.

To me, option 4 is more of a play to force them into option 2 & 3. I just do not see the conference sitting on its hands and not adding anyone.

If Georgia Southern comes with you...yes.

You may not be the greatest fit in the world, but you and the Eagles are clearly the most ready.

Would you rather have GSU?

If we do get invited you're going to love visiting western NC in the fall.

Me personally? Id prefer you guys over GSU. From the conference perspective? GSU will be first choice.

Only thing I know is that if you two do get in, we are going to have to lay down ground rules for the name debates. We'll have 2 UL's 2 GSU's and 2 ASU's at the same time.

No. We don't.

Not going to be a problem. App is already officially going to "App State." Came out last week in the "strategic plan" that also included moving the track, expanding the stadium again, so on and so forth.

Maybe so, but after all the pimping on this board, it will take a while before Application State goes away. lol

Also, don't expect this conference to honor your branding preference. They sure have ignored ours.

Hey I do about 99% of the time and in the end, isn't that what REALLY matters? 03-lmfao

GaSo officially went to "Georgia Southern" - that hasn't stopped their fans from being asshats about it.

They are:
1. Do nothing. Do not expand.
2. Expand by 2 adding Appalachian and Ga. Southern
3. Expand by 4 adding Appalachian, Ga. Southern, Idaho and New Mexico St.
4. Expand by 4 adding Appalachian , Ga. Southern, James Madison and Delaware

We have about 2-3 weeks to wait to see if this actually happens.

Right now everyone is tight lipped but based on past conversations I would think the discussion goes more like this and the options roughly in order of likelihood:

1. Take NMSU (probably football only) and have a 9/10 alignment.
2. Add App and Georgia Southern (I think Jax State gets discussed and falls out early). Going back to the 10/12 alignment
3. Add NMSU and Idaho football only, App and Georgia Southern all-sports. Going to a 12/14 alignment.
3. If one of the more regional schools is interested in FBS (which I don't believe is a given or even likely), admit one of Missouri State and Chattanooga along with NMSU in all-sports. I think it is unlikely that both of those will prove willing to go FBS and quite possibly neither is. This produces at 10/12 alignment.
4. Add one of App/Georgia Southern, add NMSU football only, add another non-football school (Belmont? UNC-Asheville? UNC Greensboro? Coastal Carolina? Charleston? Charleston Southern?) for a 10/12 alignment. Producing a 10/12 alignment.
5. Add Georgia Southern and App but bring with each a regional non-football (ie. Charleston or Charleston Southern and UNC-Asheville or UNC-Greensboro) producing a 10/14 alignment.
6. Add Georgia Southern, App, Liberty, JMU. A 12/14 alignment.

My sense is that none of the Texas schools is currently under heavy consideration.

The colors weren't changed but I am very proud of it all for two reasons. The first is because we hired a NYC marketing firm to produce a logo and what they made was garbage. The in-house marketing people at ASU created that logo. Their department head went to the Chancellor after seeing the other and said, "We've been playing with this concept and we think we have a better design."
The second is because several years ago, frustrated with ASU's inability to use a fun logo as part of our agreement with the Cherokee, our site started pushing the Red Wolf as an alternate logo, with an eye toward litigation to invalidate the Redskins trademark. Figured we'd give it up sooner or later, so be ready. So we used the wolf all over my site. When the time came, the overwhelming support was for Red Wolves.

The rebrand has really changed attitudes, though I always say, it certainly didn't hurt that our first football game as Red Wolves was a win at Texas A&M to get people to embrace the change.

That sounds like a realistic discussion. My guess is that point 1. is the one that will happen. Navy isn't coming to the BE till 2015 and may not happen at all. I don't think another CUSA is on board (i.e. Tulsa) but possibly UMass from the MAC for #12 if needed). With that, the SBC needs 9 fb teams for balance schedules and keep a higher payout for the playoff money compared to CUSA. (split 9 vs 14)
As for getting to 12 (which the presidents previously shot down), now that you are with ESPN till 2020, the CCG game isn't going to give you more $$ than you are getting now which I believe is less the the $1 million the MAC get for the whole conference per year.

Actually, most of us didn't know it was an issue 'til the seven of you Pantherfans showed up three years ago. We've always been "Ga Southern", "Southern", or "GSU" in South Georgia. Officially, we prefer the media to refer to us as Georgia Southern and our baseball team has GS on the hat.

There won't be any confusion once we play each other.

If I had my way I would add App. St., Ga. So., JMU and NMSU for all sports. I like that arrangement not for the purpose of a championship game (if we do it needs to be at the highest seed's stadium) but for travel purposes. Some would whine initially but in 5 years we would have a very strong conference and our attendance would be better than the MAC and CUSA.

Nothing will surprise me with the classy fans in Statesboro. In fact ask you baseball coach, former AD and President why you're no longer on our baseball schedule. Having said that I expect you to be added. Will be a bigger deal for your fans than ours.

The prospect of having the Stink AND JMU is very exciting to me. Those are two pre-existing rivalries for App State. An eastward ship would really help the Sunbelt I think. Rivalries are the root of long term success.

Disagree. Outside of the big BCS schools, conference champ games need to be played at one of the schools. Maybe alternate between east school and west school each year, or pick the team with the highest average attendance... flip a coin.. anything is better than neutral site game. We've seen pictures of what the Ga Dome looks like with 8,000 fans. It's not pretty. No need to bring negative attention to the conference for the champ game. You need a packed house.

+100

That would look terrible for the conference. I went to the ACC Championship game in 2006 with GT/Wake Forest in Jacksonville. It was pitiful.
