RE: Signing Day Coverage on NIUHuskies.com
No big name gets, although the RB recruits were tremendous! Two BCS recruited players.
Excellent match for our needs. Our Offense should improve.
Enough raw talent to win the MAC again.
Would be incredible if we can keep those 24 players.
Bottom 16nth rank from recruiting is meaningless.
Toledo only has a .27 differential to us. Many of their 3 star players were not sought after.
Their ranking differential is unlikely to make a difference when they play us.
Next year promises to be exciting. The remaining years after , time will tell.
Rod Carey has enough talent to prove his coaching ability against Iowa and Purdue.

Getting ten extra walk-ons to fit our needs was great.
If the preseason camp goes well, I believe we might beat Iowa for the first time.

Agreed with the 10 walk on signees...what a number. Realize that you are not going to get the highly rated guys to walk on to any team, therefore we are going to have a bunch of guys that went under the recruiting radar that could be big. If you are into the rivals/scout crap, then look at our best rated 14 guys and you should be happy with those. But, look at the potential for a few of those walk ons that went under the radar to be stars in the future...and with 10 the chances are good that a few of those guys do make a difference.

But of greater concern is which timezones the recruits come from. This could greatly impact bio-rythms and affect their play in DeKalb. I have a feeling that the huge majority of our recruits are from the Central time zone, which would make me feel a lot better. However.... (and I always hate to throw in that "however")....if they were recruited in Standard Time and have to play in Daylight Savings Time, that could also negatively impact their bio-rythms. Then, don't forget, we switch from DST to Standard Time part way through the season. I hate to say it, but this could cause our downfall. It may be the reason why our basketball team is playing like they are. Think about the time zone that Bolin is from!

I need to go now. I have a splitting headache. It could be because I was in a different time zone for part of the weekend.

The timezone comment thing only made it to the board because I made a stupid comment, then was told I was not fit to represent NIU or lead projects in the workplace because I admitted to lack of knowledge to the alignment of south-central states and their respective positioning to the time zones...made for some fun though, sure it annoyed those looking for true recruiting info. For sure, your post was not a problem. It was the reaction that was insane.

Anyone who wants to be a walk-on for NIU is hungry for success and is looking to improve and prove that he belongs on the NIU FB team.
Could this be a dividend from the Orange Bowl?
How many walk-ons did Toledo get?

I would assume that huge numbers of potential walk-ons were lined up outside Toledo's doors. But the fact that Toledo's committed recruits were all four-star national players I'm sure made for many teary-eyed potential walk-ons.

Congrats to all recruits signing today. 5* or No-star, doesn't matter. It's all about the work you put in & sacrifices you make #Former2Star

I think that only applies to people from Alabama though.

I guess it all depends on which time zone Alabama is in.

I watched the news conference and wow! I am impressed with coach Carey! He is in command, straight forward, sincere, honest, thoughtful, and not at all combative. I think he is going to do very well for us!

J.J. Watt

I never realized that JJ Watt started out as a TE at CMU. Talk about a story, transferring to Wisconsin, changing positions, and now becoming the NFL defensive player of the year.

I also never really realized that until recently that we offered Watt out of highschool.

Toledo had no 4 star recruits. Quit messing with Toledo so early on in the season.

Actually ESPN had Toledo with one 4 star commit and 247 Sports with two 4 star. Rivals had both players .1 point from being 4 star. To show how much the star system means at Scout.com -EMU's 4 star QB commit had 0 BCS offers and UT's 2 star QB had 7.

That's right! And in the Dog Fan Recruiting Class Rankings, Toledo has 2 5-star recruits and the rest are 4-star. Toledo is #1 in the nation, and schools like Alabama and tOSU have been left scratching their arses as to how they were badly out-recruited by Toledo. Crap, even all the little kids in my neighborhood are wearing Toledo uniforms.
