From HuskieWire article...

Carey said incoming freshmen should be ready to get on the field immediately.

“We tell them all that you’ve got to expect to play,” he said. “With the way numbers are in college football with 85 scholarships now, every young man that you recruit and you get to know, tell them, expect to play, train to play. And then from there, we adjust.

“Used to be when I was going through it (at Indiana), coach (Bill) Mallory told me, ‘You’re going to redshirt.’ Right now, I’m not telling these guys [to plan on redshirting]. I’m saying expect to play.”

RE: Signing Day Coverage on NIUHuskies.com
The videos on Huskiewire of the press conference and the especially the questions for Carey were great.

http://www.huskiewire.com/video/index.xm...7168190001

My favorite part was when asked how the coaching changes impacted recruiting. He kind of trailed off but basically said that what they gained (Turner, Mitchell) after the coaching change far outweighed anything they may have lost because of it. And I think you can argue that Kimble and Winfield may have left anyways.

It seems like he thinks William Lee was a steal too. That guy looked very impressive in the videos too, an animal on the inside.

I am really excited about next year.

I'll tell you this, I just can't wait to see those 60+ yard field goals from the leg of Brebant. I hope Carey will test his leg and go for the NCAA (and NFL) record.

Could this be a dividend from the Orange Bowl?
How many walk-ons did Toledo get?

I would assume that huge numbers of potential walk-ons were lined up outside Toledo's doors. But the fact that Toledo's committed recruits were all four-star national players I'm sure made for many teary-eyed potential walk-ons.

Toledo had no 4 star recruits. Quit messing with Toledo so early on in the season.

Actually ESPN had Toledo with one 4 star commit and 247 Sports with two 4 star. Rivals had both players .1 point from being 4 star. To show how much the star system means at Scout.com -EMU's 4 star QB commit had 0 BCS offers and UT's 2 star QB had 7.

That's right! And in the Dog Fan Recruiting Class Rankings, Toledo has 2 5-star recruits and the rest are 4-star. Toledo is #1 in the nation, and schools like Alabama and tOSU have been left scratching their arses as to how they were badly out-recruited by Toledo. Crap, even all the little kids in my neighborhood are wearing Toledo uniforms.

And the OSU and Alabama HC's are former BGSUX and Toledo HC's. Bet those kids look damn good in those UT uniforms too.

i think coach carey shows a real control of the program. He is a serious guy who should loosen up as the days go on. His schedule has been pretty wild. Maybe he will be able to relax a little. I heard he is giving the offensive staff off next week and the defense the week after. These guys have been going 24/7 for amonth and a half. I also like Coach Carey's Wisconsin connections, Wisc has been good to us.
