The logo is mediocre. Looks a bit USL for my taste. I was hoping for something like the Vlasic pickle mascot, but angrier.

The NBA should have done what the NFL did with the Browns and left the Hornets name where it was historically and emotionally significant. Having not done so has only allowed those that were bitter over losing the team to have those feelings fester. That's translated to contempt toward the NBA in general, and the city council/Bob's Cats in general. Since there's been several years of little kids in this region thinking that the Bobcats are their team, no point to even change that now. It won't make them win any more then they currently are, and then the novelty will have worn off of the name change. Hugo is dead, let him rest in peace.

I'm okay with it. On the team page it says the colors are "Blue and Gold", but wouldn't it be better if they named it "Blue and Brass"? You've got alliteration and a reference to jazz (brass), a centerpoint of the New Orleans culture. Just imagine the announcer guy yelling "An now entering the court, your Blue and Brass, THE NEW ORLEANS PELICANS!!!"

I swear it'd sound better in real life than what it sounds like reading it. I swear.

So they totally abandon the old colors and do the same ole red, white, and blue stuff with a hint of gold to updated it?

While the design isn't bad I don't get why if you are going to change it, that that is what it looks like.

They can change their names to the Pelicans but they will still get knocked out of the air by the Thunder.

I did applaud Seattle not being held hostage by owners trying to get sweetheart deals off the city's tax base.

Tomorrow I'm going to a dedication of a landmark for the old Pelican stadium in New Orleans :) go pelicans

Benson (owner of the Saints and now owner of the Hornets/Pelicans) hit up the league about doing a swap - bringing Jazz back and sending the Hornets name to Charlotte. He was shot down. This is his next plan. The pelican is the state bird of Louisiana, the colors match the flag of the city of New Orleans (and the blue is the same as the Louisiana flag - which, btw, has a pelican on it), and the gold also symbolizes the tie-in with the Saints (yeah, I read the press release).

Also, fyi, the logos were designed by a Southern Miss grad who also did the Grizzlies redesign and did the Houston Texans logo.
