Deserves his own thread. I like him. Very complimentary of Pastner and the program.

If I took a shot for every time he said "When I coached at Texas..." I would be drunk.

He had to have clinics and teach the refs before games that it wasn't a walk.

My favorite of the night was him saying 3 teams from C-USA will make the NCAA tournament next year.

Tom's been known to like a stiff drink or three. Maybe that is where that comes from.

He also invented the Perm for men.

And Dana quickly followed. Two of the best permed men in coaching history.

I enjoyed him. What's the story behind the jump stop though? Did he just make that up?

He was dead serious. Said he invented it and taught it to everyone.

RE: Tom Penders
Pender also got called for a technical foul when he passed out on the sideline once. He was so notorious for flopping and various histrionics that when he really did pass out and lay unconscious on the sideline----he was Te'ed Up. The medical staff came out....checked him over....loaded him up on the stretcher and took him away and......the other team took the free throws!!
The ref's made the technical stick cause they were sure he was playing it to the hilt!!
Great times!

Yeah, that was @ UAB when Mike Anderson was still their coach. The refs still let UAB shoot the two technical FTs even after it was obvious that Penders had lost consciousness.
