MyBB Geron too Passive
I know Geron is still finding his place in our team's offense, but seemed to me he was way too passive last night. Only 2 points on 3 shot attempts. Numerous times he would have wide open three point shots that the defense was daring him to take, and he would pass. He canned two with a hand in his face at UT, he's got to take the wide open shots if they are given to him. I love his defense, I'm just ready for him to be more consistent on offense.

as long as he busts his butt on defense and the team win I don't give a crap what he does on offense. That goes for every player on the team

I agree. I was surprised to see him pass a couple of them up. There were at least two occasions that he had nobody near him and hesitated and then never shot. Hopefully, with time in the system he will start taking those shots and not worry about missing.

Really, IMO this holds true to almost the entire team in the second half. They all seemed to start questioning themselves in the second half of the game last night. When this team gets apprehensive on offense, the entire offensive system shuts down and they have a really hard time getting it going again.

I suspect you'll care when they loose their last game of the season.

I disagree. We need him offensively. When he is driving and scoring and being aggressive offensively it seems to open up the court and help JJ out tremendously.

Yep, easily.

He needs to tighten up his ball handling somewhat, but he does have the potential to get drafted first round.

I think "lottery pick" is too much to put on a kid that hasn't even played a dozen D-1 games.

I agree that he passed up some good looks last night.

I think he passed up those wide open shots because Coach pulled him earlier in the game for taking a highly contested three very early in the shot clock.

That would naturally make you less inclined to take any long distance shot for fear of getting pulled.

I think he'll be fine going forward. He does have that killer instinct.

I don't want him to try to go one on one all the time, but he should always have the green light to shoot a wide open three without hesitation.

If you watched Geron closely on defense last night, he was horrible-by far his worse game of year. The game has not "slowed down" for him yet. Took 2 years for JJ-hope Geron picks up quicker.

Not sure we "know" that was the reason for the substitution but there did seem to be a concerted effort to get the ball inside for much of the game. And for all but the last 3 possessions of the 1st half, whatever the plan, it was working - being ahead 27 pts at one point. We need to bottle and become consistent with whatever we were doing in the 1st halves of the Louisville, UTK & EC games to make it happen for an entire game. Hope that is what the team & coaches are working on. And BTW, at times GJ is too agressive and he did get 2 early fouls last night.

Yea definitely not one of his better games. He got burned a couple times on defense when he would get hung up on screens, gave up a couple threes. Hope he bounces back.

Probably just an off night for him. Or, playing these types of teams is just tough for him to get going

RE: Geron too Passive
Or maybe he was just not feeling it last night and rather than miss a lot of shots he was not confident of making he decided not hurt the team with a missed shot. We have talked about how long it takes for a team to find its rhythm and he has only played about 12 games at D1 level. No one has a great game every time out. He'll have plenty of games where he will shine. The combo of Shaq, Adonis, Joe, DJ, and Geron starting is working pretty good. Seeing Damien Wilson progress is encouraging. Not loosing games regardless of who is or isn't playing well is most important for the moment. Continued progress of team play toward regular season's end is what any team is after. I think the Tigers will be hitting on all 8 cylinders in March.

RE: Geron too Passive
The entire team with the exception of Joe and DJ seem to have not quite found consistent roles. Chris is playing with a little more consistency lately. Last night guys started forcing the issue a little. I'm not sure Geron knows when to be a scorer, a playmaker, or just focus on being a defensive menace. However, I think he has the most potential to start playing explosively well as March approaches. Last night I think it was the foul trouble early that got him out of his attack mode on both ends. I still would MUCH rather have him on the court than not. I think the backcourt is playing pretty well. It's Tarik, Shaq, and Adonis that need to bring more consistent play on both ends if the team is going to make noise this year. MHO

It’s called TEAM ball.

ECU went to zone betting we would start jacking up quick 3’s. Geron was poised enough not to bite as did the entire team. An open 3 early in the shot clock isn’t a good shot unless you make it.

Geron didn’t have a great game but he did his part to help the team win. To criticize him for staying within the concept of team ball is absurd.
