$$$ 500 MM for Catholic 7 Schools Basketball League
amazing how some of you on this message board that are informed and know the economics of college athletics did not see this coming and that this will happen and the University of Memphis administration and athletic department will once again sit and wait rather than be proactive- do the math- it will be more than the NBE television deal will get and it is for a BASKETBALL ONLY league. I love Tiger football but the true reason we were joining the Big East was MONEY for the athletic programs- well let's go where the money is!!

Well than the basketball side of the NBE made up of Memphis, UConn, Cincinnati, and Temple should also get decent money.

The $500M is for 12 years and is for 10 to 12 teams, not 7. The 7 plan to keep a bigger share, giving them about $5M a year, and the new invitees much less. Still want that deal? And we would have to put football in the Sunbelt or go indy. Dumb idea.

If they can get that much, it bodes well for what we can get.

In the SEC yes but not the big east. Basketball had always been the main attraction for TV. Yes being a BCS conference helped raise the TV money some, but the networks knew that it was basketball which brought in the advertisers and TV viewers. Do not expect the nBE football TV deal to be anywhere close to the TV deal the C7 got for basketball only.

Yep. Doing all they can. But for now, we're likely in this one. Bowen made a public statement of support for Aresco and the BE to the Hartford Courant this week.

Sounds like the Catholic 7 have somebody not named Aresco doing their negotiating.

Shut football down and put BB in the C7 league, making about $1-2M as a new invitee? Yeah, that's a great plan.

Less fans.

I know some die-hard football fans that would not support dropping football.

RE: $$$ 500 MM for Catholic 7 Schools Basketball League
What we should be worried about is UConn's previous connection with the C7 as an original BE member. UConn could convince them to allow a C8 instead of C7 and receive a full share. I think the other C7 schools could be convinced to allow UConn in as a full share member. The split would then be around $4.6 mil each per year instead of $5. But i think they would be open. To basically a reforming of the original BE line up minus the ACC members.

Where does UConn put it's football? You know they can't afford what the SunBelt or CUSA will do to it.
