But on the other hand, you kind of have to expect it. The MWC and the nBE have a mighty tug of war going on right now. Given the nature of the relationship -- and the fact that each conference has targeted some of the other's programs for poaching, it would be more surprising if there wasn't a lot of head butting among the fans of the two conferences.

Granted that it is happening on your board, but a lot (but by no means all) of trolling is in response to trashing of the MWC or its members by nBE fans. And a lot of it is an attempt to make serious points when those points conflict with firmly held opinions and biases -- in other words, it's not trolling but it is perceived as such by nBE true believers.

Things will probably simmer down once a winner is declared.

That is the rub: there are certain sacred cows around here, stuff like the value of the media deal, whether new schools will develop into football powers, etc., and if you disagree with the True Believers you are labeled a troll and the mod squad is called in.

No. You are not totally correct there. What many on this board object to is the constant post after post in every thread from certain posters with negative reactions to the league.
We get it, you rather be elsewhere or you want the league to fail, but we don't need to hear it over and over again.
This is the Big East board and yes the majority of us want the league to succeed and get best deal possible, if that bothers you then maybe this is not the board for you

So basically you want to live in denial of reality? Got it. Thanks.

No where some see a half empty glass some see half full. We understand you are the doom and gloom type of guy. We get it.

If you go to the MWC board it's nearly dead. Somebody posted a poll and closed it out a week later. Maybe had 30 votes. No wonder they all come here.

Maybe a "winner" won't be declared. Maybe there will be 2 top conferences outside the fast 5 (eventually 3 top outside the fat 4) Personally, I want SDSU and Boise in the nBE, but if Boise bails, it's not the end of the world. I think it will be in Boise's best interest to stay in the nBE, and become an all-sports member. (SD as well but they are not publically hedging)

I think you left out a category of in-flux. Lots of questions still where teams like Boise, Fresno, UNLV and SMU will land. I think Houston and SDSU are more adament about being in the east.

Yes this board as become the place largely because so many other pieces were here. In my case, I follow Butler and Fresno. No where had news and opinion on the fates of both schools.

Given so many scenarios you are going to have debate on the likely outcome of those scenarios. Almost all of them affect Fresno is some way. Why would you not expect those fans to have an opinion on the likelihood of those scenarios happening and what are the influences that would or would not make them come true?

It is too far to travel unless you have an all sports western division. In fact SDSU's AD, all of his support for the nBE notwithstanding, has said that they could not join for all sports. It is one thing to send your football team east 3-4 times a year, it is quite another to send baseball, softball, basketball and other sports across country multiple times a year.

And if you have an all sports western division, then you do not have "2 top conferences outside the fast 5" because you will have pilfered enough from the MWC that it is no longer a top conference.

I don't undertsnad the MWC troll thing. Why are they here? I have no desire to go on the MWC board. I don't give a rat's ass about the MWC. I would never troll over there. I want nothing to do with those schools, their fans, or anything connected to them.

The obvious exception are the MWC schools that are definitely coming to the Big East. I welcome those fans and thank God that they're here.

And their are lots of issues with an all sports conference:

1) getting enough schools in the west to make it viable

2) Houston definately and likely SMU would much prefer to be in an eastern conference and they would have to move west in any scenario

3) in terms of basketball viewership the eastern markets of Philly, New York, Memphis and Cinci are far more valuable than most western markets for basketball even if population were equal. That's a lot of value for those schools to share and I suspect they aren't very interested in that model.

Because of those three factors I just don't see a national all sports conference. That means either the Big East keeps Boise and SDSU with no more western adds, Boise and SDSU return to the MWC, or they work together on a championship game.

RE: Is There Any Conference Board With More Trolls Than This One?
I am new to these boards. I only started to read them because I was curious about what the financial package would be for the BE and ECU. Its no secret that ECU had been trying to get out of Conf USA for a long time. The biggest asset for ECU is its fan base. Staying in Conf USA in its present form, with ODU, UNC-C, Middle Tenn,North Texas etc, would have imo, been the kiss of death for our fan base. There is no way we would have put 50,000 in the seats for any of these teams. There simply would have been no interest or excitement for these schools.

I think trolls keep coming over here, because they know their team has been left behind. As much as they say they don't mind being in Conf USA, they do, how can you say that and be serious. The Big East is going to be a more competitive league with better brand recognition and better money. This will matter to recruits. Plus, better competition, makes teams better. I really want a Marshall fan or Southern Miss fan say with a straight face that their fans are really looking forward to playing some of the new teams brought into Conf. USA. This is not a dig against Marshall or Southern Miss,as I think there fans deserve better than what is left in Conf USA.

So what are you saying? That you are incapable of civil discourse with people from the other side? Let me guess, in real life you're a Congressman.

Seriously, most of the MWC posts are not trolls -- but honest posts from MWC fans who are either objecting to the trashing of their conference or schools or who wish to engage in civil discussion of the pros and cons of both conference options. If you want the freedom to only discuss the good things about the nBE and the bad things about the MWC, unfettered by contrary opinions, then start a private board where you can control the membership.

Until then, free speech reigns -- even if some of it is trolling.

Oh and bye the way -- you also have the right to not read certain posters or threads. Don't even need your own board to do that.

First off, anybody who puts 50,000 in the seats in this economy and with a C-USA schedule, is deserving of a Big East invitation. Period. End of story.

I can't speak for the C-USA posters and trolling but I have no doubt that the nBE is a "promotion" for any C-USA member and I share your sense that the better left behind programs deserve a better fate.

As for the MWC posters here, the vast majority are from BSU, SDSU and Fresno -- all of whom have an interest in the issues rather than in trolling. I think that the term is overused; just because someone disagrees with a pro-nBE poster doesn't mean that they are trolling. As long as they are respectful, it merely means that they are thinking.

# of fans of current BE schools who have gone to the MWC board to troll = absolute 0.

Amount of criticism that's been heaped on the BE on the MWC board = much too much to count.

Conclusion to be drawn = MWC board pe nis envy of the BE is strong.

Good post. I really mean no disrespect to any Conf USA teams. Unfortunately this whole College football landscape has become a fight for survival. I have no doubt that anyone who posts on this boards wants the best for their team. The truth however, is that this system is going to have winners and losers. No school wants to left out or on the losing side.

I look forward to a good media deal, a strong conference and renewal of the rivalry with the Bearcats. When Hugs came to
town it was always an event in an event.
