RE: Blaudschun: BIG EAST will make more moves after holidays
I don't know which estimates to believe now.
If $100M is true we added about 20% by the C7 leaving, according to previous estimates given.
My head hurts... lol.

Blaudschun: BIG EAST will make more moves after holidays

Should be about 8 million for full members, if you assume a 70/30 football basketball split in 2014. $5m football, $3m basketball.
The basketball league isn't bad at ten teams. Granted, Tulane and SMU aren't Georgetown and 'Cuse, but we aren't as terrible as some are making us out to be. And with a smaller conference, there's not much dead weight. The league could be a five bid league with some good OOC scheduling agreements.

RE: Blaudschun: BIG EAST will make more moves after holidays
In an 80/20 split between basketball and football shares, football only's would get 5.7 million per school per year in 2014 (14 teams)
All sports would be 7.14 million

It could be that those earlier estimates were never accurate and were used by certain media outlets to poison the well.

With the C7 gone and not having to try to make them happy maybe a proposed solution that would work for Boise is to make the split higher than 70/30. Maybe 80/20 or 90/10.

Aresco feels that everthing will be secure until the summer of 2014. unless the schools that are leaving want to pony up some serious exit fees in cash.
“I still think we’re good through 2013,” said Aresco. “After that, we’ll see how it works out.”
How it will work out is likely to be a graduated departure. The Catholic 7 will leave on June 30th 2014. They will take the Big East name with them. They will add three more schools–Xavier, Butler and we’ll say VCU. They will also have close to 42 million dollars in assets garnered from the split with the Big East to use as start up money.
This should all be done in the next few months. Again, if anyone wants to leave by next season, Aresco will listen, but they had better be prepared to hand over as much a $20 million plus legal fees to get out of town.

Pete Thamel of SI.com has already reported that the C7 league will go to 12 and Xavier and Butler are definite and Dayton and Creighton are near definite while St. Louis is in the lead for that last spot. I personally would rather have VCU than St. Louis.
VCU and Butler should be locks, can't wait to see how everything unfolds.

According to sources familiar with the discussions going on about expansion, Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany didn’t even have Rutgers on his A B or C list until Georgia Tech finally said no thank you as a partner with Maryland. Once that happened and once Syracuse announced it was leaving the Big East, Rutgers moved into prime time.
Actually from what I've heard it had been all about ND and Rutgers and then once ND moved it became about we need to shore up the Eastern flank. Rutgers is one but who will be the other partner? But different people "familiar" with these things will say different things and no one will ever truly know exactly what happened behind the scenes. And the big hole in that theory is if Rutgers weren't on any of his short lists until after Georgia Tech said no, they likely wouldn't have expanded if Rutgers was the only option available and it wasn't palatable. There was also that report that Rutgers would make the Big Ten the most money after Notre Dame and Texas. Maryland, Mizzou, Cuse and Pitt were all studied perhaps others.

70/30 might be shortchanging the football only schools a bit, so I could see 80/20 maybe.
But 90/10 is highway robbery when you still have UCONN, Cincy, Memphis, temple, and some other big markets in the league. At that point it makes more sense to just go all-sports. 10 schools splitting a tenth of the contract is silly. Makes more sense just to go all sports and split a bigger pie in equal shares. So it won't be anything close to 90/10. Maybe 75/25.

Well since there are no more non-FB schools I was just tossing something out there. I think the split was more important when you had the C7 around because you had to ensure they got enough money to make them happy. I say go 80/20.

The sunshiner number is $100 mil. The gloom and doom number is $40 mil. Splitting the difference would yield $70 million. I predict between $60 and $80 mil.

Good point. That would only be an issue if we decided later to add basketball onlys. Personally, I still feel the end game is all-sports east and west.

Exactly. It also could be that 30-40 was the amount that notoriously cheap CBS was willing to bid. Which would explain why the deal will be split with NBC and ESPN with CBS nowhere to be found in the equation.

If we have a 10 team eastern core and BSU and SDSU as football only, I certainly have no problem with them getting a little larger share to help them with their issues, but that can be destabilizing to some so who knows? I think a western all sports division is too hard to pull off at this point, but maybe Fresno would like the Big West/BE model and there we are.

Why not all you have to do is stop playing no conference patsies like Tenn- Martin,Miss-Valley,NCAT,Campbell,Arkansas-Little Rock,Maryland Eastern Shore, Wright State, At Marshall
Also ths year you are playing conference games vs
Rutgers and USF at home, vs Rutgers,DePaul,Seton Hall and Providence all on he road. Thse teams are as good and have as much rep as thse you mentioned

I much rather play Rutgers, Seton Hall and Providence. At least they allow us to recruit the northeast (3 or 4 players on the roster this year, most notably Lance Stephenson a few years ago).

As good of a program as Vegas is, I would rather just see them as FB-only. I mean, I don't want to be traveling every damn sport cross-country.

Nothing stops you guys from scheduling off conference. I mean come on man there is a lot of dead weight in your non conference schedule. Take four out and schedule tougher opponents and those other conference games should be wins on your schedule as those you currently play out of conference
