Your QB?
He's only a sophomore? Jeez... How is he as good as he is?

RE: Your QB?
Heinicke is a unique athlete; his talents transcend measurement and his determination defies convention. He'll lead our team for two more years and those will be two more exciting seasons as a result. Taylor is the physical embodiment of this team's competitive potential, now and for the years to come.

RE: Your QB?
The coach said he is an example of everyone in the organization.... all were told that they were not good enough, can never compete at the highest level.... players... coaches.
He has yet to play two full seasons of games. Started midway thru his freshman year.

RE: Your QB?
We are probably lucky that his high school team had a stud running back Heinicke's junior year in high school. If they passed the ball a lot, he would have had a lot better offers.
But, I ain't complaining. QB's have to be salivating when ODU is interested.

I bet for the next couple of recruiting classes, the WR will be salivating too should we come calling...

If you look at Heinicke's junior year highlights video, you will see he was very impressive even then, and most of the time he was throwing from a pro set, under center. His high school coach did not change to the spread until his senior year, because of how good he looked throwing his junior year.

RE: Your QB?
I have watched his junior and senior year highlight videos, and for the life of me, I cannot begin to understand why he was not heavily recruited by SEC schools. His talent was just so readily apparent. What in the blue blazes are the BCS schools looking for? I just don't know how they all passed on him - - but I am sure glad that they did!

RE: Your QB?
here's a question for you guys that like to break down film, ect - is there anything that makes TH better than guys like colt brennan or chase daniels or that dude from Texas Tech 3-4 years ago that was lighting it up? I'm just asking b/c we've speculated about his post-college playing potential. those guys I mentioned played in a similar system and had a lot of success in college and not really much in the pros…I'm well aware he's still got two more years, but I guess I'm asking up til this point…we all know his size is going to be an issue, but thats about it as far as I can tell. I'll admit that I don't know as much as some other people on here.

Chase has a chance.
I think Heinicke has a stronger arm and is bigger than those guys.

RE: Your QB?
Ten reasons why I think Taylor Heinicke will play on Sundays:
1. Strong arm. He can make all the throws
2. Quick release
3. Very accurate -- low interception rate with almost 70% completion rate with a good number of the 30% misses being throw aways or drops
4. Extends plays -- moves well in the pocket
5. Smart -- studies hard and works at his trade
6. Can run effectively, but looks for the pass first
7. Football smart -- uncany ability to feel pressure and see the field
8. Very competitive
9. Has "it" -- whatever "it" is, he has it
10. He's a winner

As i read your post I had what can only be described as an epiphany.
I am going to show my age, and most here won't really understand what I am referring to, but;
This kid is, in almost all respects, a perfect clone of Navy's and Dallas' Roger Staubach.

Getting away from and eluding FCS level speed and talent does not necessarily translate to same abilities against NFL caliber speed and talent.

True. NFL success comes between the ears and through work ethic. Heinicke will not be a scrambling NFL QB. He can use his legs to buy an extra second, but he is not Mike Vick or RG3. Just simply not quick enough. The question will be, within that extra second, can he keep his eyes downfield, know where to look, make a good decision, and have the balls to take a shot from a 300 pounder running at him at full speed and deliver an accurate pass. Very few that are TH's size have that dynamic. Drew Brees is really the only one in the NFL right now.
I think he can do it and he will get a shot, but I wouldn't expect him to be drafted in the first 3 rounds.
