Cubit Leaves Lasting Legacy
A few glaring factual errors, but an overall good piece on Bill Cubit's legacy by the Western Herald:

Can't you just say a nice article? Nice backhand, good form on the follow through. :domokun:

I said it was a nice piece. And I also POSTED the article on here for others to read. Just pointing out before you read it that it had some mistakes. That's all.

You wouldn't know "good form" if it hit you in the back of the head.

I know a good backhand by a b!tch when I see one. You're one of the best at that.

It wasn't a backhand. The article that Chris wrote was very good. I agree that Cubit left a very good legacy here at WMU, despite what a few nay-sayers might say about him as a coach. He was a great guy, and Chris did a very nice job of articulating that in the article.

But here you are once again, turning what could have been a decent discussion (thread) into your own little pitiful bicker-fest with more meaningless fights to pick. Said it once, I'll say it again... Must be a fun life.

Agree, nice article about a nice man and good coach with principles.

That's all that needs to be said. Thanks for posting.

Ugh, a "MAC conference" reference. Drives me crazy. Nice article though.

Good article but i await bitterman's take on it. As for the mistake I believe Brian references Nebraska instead of Iowa error but overall accurate, IMO. A lot of near misses had they gone our way 500 was certainly attainable in the BCS games.

Nice article about a nice man and good offensive coach.
Coach Cubit's only problem was in recruiting too many offensive players and not giving the defense enough talent. Typically if we had 20 scholarships, offense would get 12 players and defense would get the leftovers.

This came from a former defensive coach, inside story!

But Bill Cubit and his family were great people, just like Al Molde and his family!

I just wish Cubit could stay at Western in some capacity such as an athletic adviser...if there is such a thing.

Wish him and his family well. He did a lot for Western football, the school, but, most importantly, his players.

Very true.

So are Moldes and Darnells.

Bottom line - you have to win.

Fickle game. We could get a new guy in next year and with whats returning he could win the MAC. NIU loses its coach, and several key players, and like everyone else your an injury or two away from the cellar.

If that happened would the new guy be a genius, or simply in the right place at the right time.

If you ask me Brian Kellys entire career is based on timing. I think he's a good coach, but not a genius by any means.

You are right
Had we gotten better weather in Mt P in BC year 2 and beaten Kelly's CMU , history could've been re written and that was with a D3 wr corps

You could ask the same about Cubit when he took over here.

But he was never able to take program to MACC level - because of his shortcomings as a head coach, limitations from within athletic department, or combination thereof?
