RE: Parrish on Johnson
Geron really seems to have his head on straight now. His story strikes me a very much the situation of lots of college players who come out of a rough background. Some of those guys never get it together in their college years, but many do. As he goes forward, the rewards for staying on task will be greater and greater, as will the loss of opportunity if he makes a bad decision. When that comes in to focus, for many, that is enough to keep them on the right track. I hope for his sake and ours that he continues to show the focus and maturity he has shown so far.

Last night was the tip of the iceberg. He is the best player Josh has recruited to date.

I get the feeling the "new" kids are showing the "old" kids what it's like to play at a consistently higher level.

Being competitive on the offensive side is great, after all the team that scores the most points in a set time period wins. But competitiveness also extends to the defensive side. Shutting down an opponent proves you're the better player.

GJ still has some learning and growing to do, but he's certainly impressive so far, and I think he'll only get better over the next couple of years. The sky's the limit with this guy.

IMO, he is not necessarily any better, or worse, this week, than before. He's still learning, and should continue to get better. Just like any coach, particularly one who got thrown into a situation like this, way too early.

But if we're going to criticize his coaching when we play poorly, then we have to give him credit when we play great, regardless of the specific reasons.

There was never any doubt that Pastner is a coach and will only get better. To ask is only because the Tiger haters like to pollute this board with their venom.

RE: Parrish on Johnson
To be honest,

Pastner needs to put the same strict guidelines on the Memphis kids for which GJ adheres to. Only return some of their privileges like staying out late or missing a class or two w/o penalty after the buy into the "hustle" and "organized havoc" philosophy.

Really like the part where it states GJ was at home by midnight without complaint and without eception. None of that "I wasn't home by 12 because I just didn't feel like it" or "I was just not in the mood".

Finally a few players on the team who simply strive to MAN UP.

Other than the spin that makes it appear as though Pastner allows some kids to get away with a lot (something he does not do), good article.

Really strong game from Johnson last night. Here's to many more! Well into March and April.

I don't forsee that problem with next year's crop of Mempis kids.... King, Markel and Austin. I think the energy of this team has been changed forever (for the better).
