I said we may end up averaging 25 turnovers a game. Ive been told weve averaged 16 to 17 a game. We had 20 tonight. The average is rising. As well, we had 27 against Illinois State.

Losers.

I agree MB.

I really don't know what the hell everybody bitching expected. We are small, and our current coach didn't have a ton to do with that. We are learning a new offense and defense, and there are going to be some issues. Before the season, most people with reasonable expectations thought about 20 wins was our ceiling. There are going to be good games, and there are going to be bad games. There are going to be good halves, and bad halves. Good spurts and bad spurts. It happens. Last year everybody was bitching because we played too slow, so we got a coach who wants to play faster. Haase doesn't have a bunch of players he recruited, and he really doesn't have a bunch of players with experience in the system. Let's give it some time before we decide the season is over.

Well, we've also played 6 of our 8 D1 games away from home.

I have no problem with them losing, but when you don't get back on D. I can't be happy with that.

Exactly. I can handle a loss when we're playing with effort and simply are outmatched. But there was no effort tonight. No passion whatsoever.

BTW, I didn't have a problem with our losses to Creighton, UNC, or even Illinois State. Wasn't happy about the loss to TCU. But getting your doors blown off by MTSU.

One point of perspective for all sports -- EVERY first year coach must endure his first season playing about 85% of last years players - whose play got the last coach fired.

definitely not ready to throw Haase under the bus or declare the season a total loss yet, but there are some trends emerging that are very frustrating. The fact that we have TONS of bad turnovers every game, is troubling. Also, for a coach that was billed as playing so up tempo and what not, we don't seem to be scoring that many more points or forcing more turnovers or running that many more fast breaks than in recent years. Not playing with any heart or hustle was very bad tonight, also. However, that particular thing doesn't seem to be a trend and I hope it's a one time only deal.

Kind of unrelated, but I think QT is a bust. MD was pretty good at finding diamonds in the rough, but u think he's simply one recruit that he missed on.

Get it together guys

What qualifies as tons of bad turnovers? Here is a game by game breakdown UAB turnovers first, opponents second.
13:15
9:10
16:19
16:23
27:18
17:19
15:14
18:20
20:15

It's like some of you aren't even paying attention to the games. When you play at a faster pace, you are going to naturally turn the ball over more.(UNC averages 15 a game, UAB averages 17 in its first year in this system) I swear some of you forget how many balls were thrown into the stands when we were playing under Anderson.

First, we get it's too slow and boring. We don't run any kind of offense. Our defense gives up too many open looks.

Now, after 9 games we are basically getting it's out of control. We aren't forcing turnovers.(which we clearly are) We aren't scoring enough.(56th in the country, at 76 a game, is a pretty big jump from last year) We also get a ton of assists, and our rebounding numbers are decent at this point.

It takes time folks. It takes the right players. It takes the right training. We haven't had enough time to judge any of that right now. Before the season, almost all of us agreed it would take at least half a season for things to start coming together. We are 9 games in, and we are looking at every negative possible right now. Let's just give it some time. The season is far from over, and there is plenty of time to make a nice run in conference.

In my opinion, most of our problems so far this season can be fixed with good coaching. I think we will see a huge improvement in the next month.

MTSU game thread
I always avoid game threads until the day after when reading the last page or so can be entertaining. But something I noticed during the early days of XCMD and XCNC is really proving itself to not be an aberration at all: the "it's his first year with little to work with...what did you expect" posters and the "no excuses, this is unacceptable...light the torches!!" posters flip camps completely between football and basketball season. Very interesting...
