RE: FWIW - Tulane/Big East
Its not as shocking as some of you think and you're right, life isn't fair!
Yes, as of late we do suck in the Win/Loss department but you can't count out things like...
AAU University
New Orleans (market and travel destination)
Superdome
Sugar Bowl
New Orleans Bowl
Over 100 Million investment in Athletics (New Baseball Facility, Basketball Practice Facility, On Campus Football Stadium)
Heart of SEC country
Hot bed of talent in New Orleans to recruit

YAY?
Not sure what this means. Does this signal that ECU turned them down or that the BE is heading a different direction or what.. This one has me a little confused.

MARKETS!!!!!!!!
And considering who the basketball schools want to associate themselves with institutionally. I'd wager that if it were purely about markets, North Texas would have been in over SMU, but getting the institutional alignment with the basketball schools is an important factor.
While Tulane is a prestigious university, I doubt the basketball only schools will be excited about this addition. But as I said, it is possible this isn't all-sports. Or the BE admin may know something that we don't (ie, that the basketball only schools may be close already to pulling out anyway and that the BE admin is going to attempt to put together a conference regardless of the basketball only school's input).

No reason to want to be in the BE once all the good teams leave... especially if they are bringing up more teams with terrible football.

If a team has won championships, fills up their stadium, etc., they should pay a much lower exit fee when they get called up. If, on the other hand, a team like Tulane gets called up, the exit fee should be increased. That said, I won't miss Tulane all that much; but they should definitely have their pockets lightened on the way out.
Let me get this straight. Performance is your criteria?( what was your record this year? ) what is your highest BCS ranking? Was it higher than 7? Stop putting teams down to make yourself feel better. I love southern miss. Tulane is most certainly deserving of upgrading as well as Southern miss.
I wasn't thinking of a one year/one sport system. That would be ridiculous. It's logical to go back several years, maybe even to the year the school entered CUSA. And I do think it's fair to set up the exit fees such that they inject a little more fairness into the process. Left to their own devices, the current decision-makers give us ridiculous results like Tulane moving up before USM.
Not incidentally, I had my own opportunity to choose between USM and Tulane when I was 17, and it wasn't a difficult decision. If you're the sort of person who chose Tulane over a public university actually focused on doing real good outside of the pages of USNWR magazine, then you and I will never see eye-to-eye.

If there's anyone that could get this move accomplished for Tulane, it's Scott Cowen.

Hey... if TV markets are one of the big factors, you never know
Seriously though, no one saw Tulane coming. Who knows who will be next?

We would block Rice from joining the Big East. (and most likely SMU would too).

You guys have fun with that. I like the Tulane posters here and I apologize for saying this, but TU brings literally nothing to the Big East except a warm body.
